NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEAD TEACHER - Mrs Gail Holmes
Dear Parents and Carers,

The Christmas Elves have been hard at work over the weekend to get the school ready for the Festive Season. We need to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the staff but especially Mrs Jade Kiff, who has handwritten a Christmas Wish on a wooden star for every single child and staff member. The stars are hung on our Christmas Tree in the hall. All the staff helped to put up the Christmas decorations to bring some festive cheer to the school for the children. The school elves were busy working inside and outside! We hope the children will enjoy the surprise on the playground!

Thank you very much to Norman's Fruit and Veg for supplying the Christmas Tree and also to the PTFA who funded the stars for every child in school! We hope you all enjoy the run up to Christmas.

Covid-19 Update
Firstly, thank you for your support to ensure we keep our families, children, staff and our community safe. Currently we have had no children or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 in school. We have had some families and staff who are self isolating due to contact through test and trace but we have had no children, or staff who have tested positive.

Now we are coming to the end of a national lock down and Devon is in 'Tier 2- High Alert'. It is really important we continue to follow the government guidance. Please click on the link below for further information.

COVID-19 symptoms or general illness?
Below is a reminder of the symptoms to look out for and what you should do if any member of your household display these symptoms.

Main symptoms
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

What to do if you have symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
  1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
DCC have now put in place arrangements to provide supermarket vouchers to children across Devon who currently receive Free School Meals.  These are for families who are in receipt of certain benefits, NOT Universal FSM's.
You will shortly receive a letter from Devon County Council with instructions on how you access your Meal Vouchers.
As always, we will be on hand, if you encounter difficulties.

Many of you will remember the Parent Lite App, that you downloaded last year to review and update data we hold for your child.
Many parents successfully used this app, especially with the many regulations of GDPR using paper based information.
You will once again, be receiving a email with an invite .  We will be sending this information out on Monday 7th December, which will enable you to access the Parent App and website at your own convenience via smartphone, tablet or PC, anytime and anywhere.
You will find access to update your contact details and permissions, so we always have the most up-to-date information in case of emergency.

We will be having the flu vaccination team into school during the morning of  Monday 7th December 2020 to see all children between reception and year 6, this will be administered adhering to all up to date Infection Control, PPE and social distancing guidance at the time.

Flu vaccination is one of most effective interventions we have to reduce pressure on the health and social care system which is going to be more important than ever this year.  For this reason, it is essential we deliver the vaccine to as many children as possible to prevent the spread of infection to those most at risk in society.

In light of the above we are expecting demand to be high and therefore we urge you to follow the below link to consent to your child’s vaccination now if you have not already done so. You will also find answers to your FAQ’s on this link.
