Important Healthcare Information

Dear Parents and carers,

We have been advised by Public Health England that a child in Year 3 has contracted meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia. The information below is advice from Public Health England and is also on our website (in the parent’s section).

Single case of meningitis at the school: Information for parents and carers

We have been informed that a person at the school has been diagnosed with meningitis / septicaemia, caused by the meningococcal bacteria.

Please be reassured that the risk to others is very small. Public Health England has taken all action to reduce the risk of further cases and there is no reason to change the school routine or for children to be kept away from school.

While the risk to others is very small, it is important everyone is aware of the signs and symptoms of both meningitis and septicaemia. Get medical help immediately if you or your child experiences these symptoms - call NHS 111 for urgent advice, or 999 in a medical emergency.

Some strains of meningitis and septicaemia can be prevented with vaccinations. Protect your child against meningitis by making sure they are up to date with their vaccinations Speak to your GP practice to check. For further information:

Or call the Meningitis Research Foundation Helpline 0808 800 3344, or Meningitis Now, 0808 80 10 388

Please have a good look through the information and remain vigilant of the symptoms. I have had a long conversation with officials from Public Health England and am confident in their assessment. I’m sure we all wish our poorly pupil well and hope to see him in school soon.
