Parent Voice October

On Thursday we had our first Parent Voice for this academic year. We had three members of staff attend, two parents (one of which is a parent representative for our school). There was one parent who came to see me as she couldn't come in the evening and two parents who emailed in messages and requests.

We have to assume that everyone else has no issues they'd like to raise.

Behaviour: We talked at length about the changes to our approach to behaviour; why we have changed them and what we hope to achieve.
  • How all of the component parts of the approach fit together to improve the learning culture at CMPS.
  • How rewards fit into the behaviour approach.
  • How school would like dojo point notifications to be used at home and how we are using dojo points and attendance for a House competition.
  • What fantastic walking is and what it is not! Parents watched it in action and we discussed how we use it to make sure all the children are happy.
  • How we can involve the children more with deciding assembly topics and themes.
Actions:
  • To use the phrase 'walk tall' to ensure a good posture is adopted while walking fantastically.
  • To discuss assembly themes during Hot Choc Friday and School Council meetings.
  • Please see the picture below summarising the changes.
  • When you get notification of a DOJO POINT please use the information to discuss what your child did at school to recieve it. It is intended to recognise good work and give parents a way to discuss being successful at school with your children.
Smoking outside of the School Gates
  • Parents expressed their dissatisfaction at other parents smoking outside the school gates and dropping cigarette ends on the floor.
Action:
  • This is linked to our SCHOOL RULES. Be Safe, Be Ready and BE RESPECTFUL.
  • Please respect everyone at School and look after the environment. Please refrain from Smoking outside school. Parents are invited to remind smokers to BE RESPECTFUL of the example they are setting to the children, the effects on other's health and the environment in a respectful way.
Newsletters

School sends out a lot of information yet a great deal of parents continue to not know about events which are organised for their children. We discussed how we can encourage parents to read what is sent out.
  • All parents were happy with the communications.
  • It was thought that some emails could be bulletted and more consise.
  • Parents could be reminded about the communication system and their responsibility to keep up to date.
  • Develop a method of having a debate online. We discussed the current ways to let School know views and Mr Railston described how he'd like individual views and not social media style 'virtue signalling' conversations. How conversations could be moderated was an interesting point brought up by a parent.
Actions
  • How are you liking the bullet style?
  • Information is sent out in the following ways:
    • Paper copy - rarely.
    • Dojo - Daily news and reminders.
    • email - Weekly - a keeping in touch email with some issues addressed in more detail when needed.
    • Instagram and Twitter - not as often as we'd like due to the number of children who do not have photograph permission at the moment.
    • Facebook - rarely - we can't use this at school.
  • We will be looking at different ways to communicate for a debate.
Clubs
  • Parents were happy with clubs and didn't know why some were not taken up.
Actions
  • School will do their best to get the clubs list out before the end of each half term so parents can look over the holidays.
  • The club list is on the website.
The next meeting will be a morning meeting. Please watch out for information in the Newsletter. One of the topics discussed will be school dinners.

Thank you to all who took part.
