Anti Bullying Week 16.11.20

NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEAD TEACHER - Mrs Gail Holmes
Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a wonderful return to school from half term. The children, staff and families have been busy with fantastic contributions to Harvest, the PTFA Christmas Cards, the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need. Thank you for your wonderful support.

As you will have read in the letter sent out to you by Neil Moir, the CEO of our Trust, schools have taken the opportunity during the pandemic to reflect on the best ways forward for education in order to build on our current successes and how we can do things differently, focusing on what works and what matters, as always putting the children, families and staff at the centre of everything we do.

There is a real excitement in school about our plans which include a complete refresh of our curriculum and the introduction of Character Education, giving children time to practice character virtues through a focused enrichment programme. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 will also be provided with their own Chromebook, or equivalent, to support class and home learning (training for pupils and parents/carers will also be provided).

You will have also read details about how the central MAT team is being developed as well. The sub teams of this central team will be present regularly in school and include social and inclusion officers to support safeguarding for our community and a dedicated IT team who will provide hardware and technical support. Work is already underway and we are aiming to have these plans in place by January 2021. Needless to say, this is a really exciting time for the school and there is a real buzz amongst staff across the MAT, including Combe Martin. Exciting times ahead!

This week is Anti-Bullying Week 2020: United Against Bullying. We will be refocusing the children on our school ethos to be Ready, to be Safe and to be Respectful and also for children to use their WITS: Walk away, Ignore and Tell a member of Staff.

Covid-19 Update
Firstly, thank you for your support to ensure we keep our families, children, staff and our community safe. Currently we have had no children or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 in school. We have had some families and staff who are self isolating due to contact through test and trace but we have had no children, or staff who have tested positive.

Now we are in a national lock down, it is really important we continue to follow the new national lock down guidance outside of school too.
COVID-19 symptoms or general illness?
Below is a reminder of the symptoms to look out for and what you should do if any member of your household display these symptoms.

Main symptoms
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

What to do if you have symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
  1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.

We will be having the flu vaccination team into school during the morning of  Monday 7th December 2020 to see all children between reception and year 6, this will be administered adhering to all up to date Infection Control, PPE and social distancing guidance at the time.

Flu vaccination is one of most effective interventions we have to reduce pressure on the health and social care system which is going to be more important than ever this year.  For this reason, it is essential we deliver the vaccine to as many children as possible to prevent the spread of infection to those most at risk in society.

In light of the above we are expecting demand to be high and therefore we urge you to follow the below link to consent to your child’s vaccination now if you have not already done so. You will also find answers to your FAQ’s on this link.
