THE EASTER BUNNY AND COLORED EGGS
OLDER THAN WE THOUGHT

This year, Easter is April 16. For Christians, Easter celebrates Jesus' resurrection and the promise of eternal life. Easter is also the day that the Easter Bunny visits everyone with vividly colored eggs. Interestingly, the Easter Bunny and his eggs come from springtime icons older than Christianity itself. Pre-Christian people were so fond of these familiar symbols that they found a way incorporate them into Christianity when they adopted it.

Mike has been playing music most, if not all, of his life. He loves all music and loves sharing it with others. He plays and teaches banjo (Scruggs and failing), acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, mandolin and dobro. Students of all ages and experience prosper under his guidance. Mike has a brief recording about his teaching approach on his page of our website. We are delighted and grateful that Mike makes himself available to students at Meadowood.

BAND FEATURE: CHUCK LONGENECKER

Chuck performs as a solo act called the Street Box Strummer and in a band called the Street Box Band. Both versions of 'Street Box' serve up an eclectic mix of classic & alternative rock, rhythm & blues and singer/songwriter artistry.

Chuck's next local show is on Saturday, March 25, 7:30 PM — 9:30 PM at the Nazareth Center For The Arts, 30 East Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA 18064. He will be performing songs from his new CD "Backroads" and also interesting renditions of tunes from artists who have inspired him along the way.

PRODUCT FEATURE

FURCH GUITARS (prononced: Ferk)
What we learned as we were deciding to add Czech-built Furch Guitars to Meadowood's offerings is that František Furch built guitars well before the guitar company's 1981 founding date.

REPAIR FEATURE: BUGS

FINDING AND TREATING THE PROBLEM

Anthrenus Museorum (shown to the left as an adult and larvae) are bugs that usually live in closed dark places where they eat anything made of protein.  As ”Museorum” implies, These bugs are a common problem in museums where they destroy leather, hair, parchment, and other organic materials.

A type of mite, this insect also plagues the owners of violins, violas, cellos and basses, especially when the instruments are infrequently played and are stored on carpeted floors (another place that harbors mites).  Anthrenus Museorum, eating the hair and glue on instrument bows are such a common blight, that they have earned the name “bow mites.”  Bow mites consume anything made of protein: woolen felt or silken case linings, leather case coverings, straps and handles, bow hair, hide glue and gut strings. For more information about mites and how to get rid of them, visit the article on our website.
