April 2, 2020
Dear Friends,
Like so many Catholics around the world, we look forward to the beautiful celebrations of Holy Week each year. We already miss you so much and it will be especially hard this week not to be together! Know of our love and prayers in a particular way this week. We will be sending out another communication on Tuesday, April 7th, with resources for how to enter into what will be a Holy Week unlike any other. Here are a few thoughts for this upcoming weekend.
Palm Sunday Video Mass. Here is the recorded Mass celebrated by Fr. Tim and Fr. John for Palm Sunday. Special thanks to our liturgists Mary Robertson and Brian Eggers, and cantor Amy Sobczak, for helping to provide such beautiful music! We have also created a worship aid in PDF to help you better enter into the prayer of the Mass.
We have created a new Holy Week at Home section on our website which will have resources on how to enter into Holy Week in this different way. As mentioned above, we will send out another communication on Tuesday, April 7th, with information on the live-streamed liturgies from the Cathedral for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. All of these links, along with our forthcoming recorded video Mass for Easter Sunday by Fr. Tim and Fr. John, will be found in the ‘Holy Week at Home’ portion of our website.
Lenten Almsgiving: Supporting Tikkun Ha-Ir and Parish Giving. As you may recall, our Lenten theme this year was a “Journey to the Holy Land with our Jewish Brothers and Sisters.” Unfortunately, much of our programming was cut short due to COVID-19. However, we would ask you to please still donate your Lenten almsgiving to our partner Jewish organization Tikkun Ha-Ir. Their Veggie Chop Shop does amazing work to promote food justice and to feed the hungry in the city of Milwaukee. Please either send a check to the parish office (see address below) made out to “Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee” or visit their website to donate: https://thi-milwaukee.org/donate/.
We continue to ask for your financial support of our parish during this difficult time. There is not a mission without a margin, and we need your help now more than ever! Please mail in your envelopes and contributions to our parish office (Old St. Mary Parish, 835 N Milwaukee St, Milwaukee, WI 53202), and our parish staff will continue to process these.
Again, please do not hesitate to contact either Fr. Tim (Cell: 414-762-7986; kitzket@archmil.org) or Fr. John (Cell: 414-305-3824; baumgardnerj@archmil.org) if you need anything! Be assured of our love and prayers.
Sincerely,
Fr. Tim and Fr. John
