“Catholic education aims to not only communicate facts, but also to transmit a coherent, comprehensive vision of life, in the conviction that the truths contained in that vision liberate students in the most profound meaning of human freedom” (Pope Saint John Paul II)
This past Sunday we celebrated 8th grade graduation for our scholars of Catholic East Elementary. What a year it was for them! As I told them in the homily, unless next year’s graduating class goes on a class field trip to the moon, I don’t think anyone will be able to top their story of graduating during a global pandemic for a long time. Our school motto is “We pray! We serve! We learn!” I was grateful for the opportunity to be together in a socially distant way to honor the many ways the students have prayed, served, and learned during their time at Catholic East.
Can I ask a big favor? If you would, please take a moment this week to pray for all principals, school leaders, teachers, and staff. Schools all across the country are preparing to resume learning in these unprecedented circumstances and none of the decisions that accompany this re-opening are easy. We are so blessed at Catholic East by the leadership of our principal Mr. Tony Gonzalez! Also, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new assistant principal Mr. Timothy Trzcinko. Our teachers and staff went above and beyond last year and they are committed to doing the same again this year. Our work of Catholic education is not just simply a communication of facts (though important!), but also a passing on of the gift of seeing ourselves, the world, and our neighbor through the “eyes of faith” in Jesus Christ. In our present times so filled with division and violence, our work of passing on this different vision of life through Catholic education has never been more important. Know of my prayers for all educators and I would humbly ask for yours too!
Video Mass for Sunday August 2nd. Here is the recorded Mass celebrated by Fr. Tim for this upcoming Sunday (the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time). We provide a worship aid to help you better enter into the prayer of the Mass. Please know that we will continue these recorded Masses indefinitely. We are so grateful to DV Productions, our Liturgists Mary Robertson and Brian Eggers, and our music ministers for their efforts in making our prayer as beautiful as possible.
Update from Catholic East Elementary. There are still a limited number of seats available for the 2020-2021 school year. We are so pleased to have you and your child(ren) as part of our Catholic East family! We would like to have more just like you! Don’t forget to recommend us to family and friends who are looking for a richly diverse school environment for their child(ren), one that promotes the pursuit of academic excellence, nurtures strong moral development, and fosters lifelong learning through living out the Gospel values. Click here and share our information regarding enrollment and a preview of our school. For more information or to enroll, contact us at (414) 964-1770, Mondays through Thursdays, 10:00 am - 1:30 pm, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
