“The most deadly poison of our time is indifference.”
(St. Maximilian Kolbe)

Dear Friends,

Peace of Christ to you wherever you are and whatever is filling your hearts these days!

If anything, the pandemic and our continual work for justice and equity for all are calling us out of our isolation into what Pope Francis encourages us to — a life of encounter! With so much happening to spin our heads and hearts, with the continual changes we are experiencing sometimes by the minute, with lines of division drawn firmly amongst factions, with a politics of ideology that sometimes works against fresh ideas and even the truth, we as Christians are called to more!

St. Maximilian Kolbe, whose cell in Auschwitz I was humbled to pray at a few years ago, reminds us that we no longer have the leisure to stay uninvolved when the pressing needs of our world call for the presence of Christ more than ever. Using our framework of PRAY, LEARN, ACT, let us once more engage in something new this week to witness to Christ and his beckon call to serve and encounter the world to make it a better place, especially for our kids and elderly, especially for the poor, especially for anyone who is left out of sharing in the great gifts of life.

Let’s get to work…

In-Person Masses. If you want to attend an in-person Mass this weekend, there are still places available for the 5:00 pm Saturday Mass at SS Peter & Paul as well as Sunday’s 8:30 am Mass at Three Holy Women-St. Hedwig Church. See SS Peter & Paul’s website for Saturday’s signup or Three Holy Women’s website for Sunday’s signup. Registration closes at noon on Friday.

Video Mass for Sunday August 16th. Here is the recorded Mass celebrated by Fr. Tim and Fr. John for this upcoming Sunday (the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time). We provide a worship aid to help you better enter into the prayer of the Mass. Please know that we will continue these recorded Masses indefinitely. We are so grateful to DV Productions, our Liturgists Mary Robertson and Brian Eggers, and our music ministers for their efforts in making our prayer as beautiful as possible.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Six Saints conference has been very busy during the pandemic. Although they have needed to adjust their procedures in meeting the needs of the poor in our community, those needs have not diminished in any way. If you would like to support the ministry of St. Vincent de Paul by offering donations of kitchen items (pots, pans, plates, silverware, cups etc.), household items (new or like-new bedding, new towels, etc.) or furniture, please contact Laura Hancock at hancockl@archmil.org or leave a message on her office voice mail 414-271-6577 and she will connect you with the chapter President to arrange for pick-up of your donation. Also, financial donations via cash or checks made out to St. Vincent de Paul are always appreciated. Please mail checks to Three Holy Women, Attn: Laura Hancock, 1716 N Humboldt Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202. Thank you for your ongoing generosity!

Dedra’s Home Finished! Update from Habitat for Humanity. It was a great joy to join Dedra, her family and friends, and members of our parish community for an online dedication of Dedra's home last week. After many hours of sweat equity from Dedra, the sponsorship and labor of our parish community, and the dedicated work of the Habitat for Humanity staff, it was a blessing to offer prayers, gifts, and congratulations to Dedra on her new home. Click here to watch the recording of the virtual dedication ceremony. THANK YOU, parishioners, for your sacrificial giving throughout 2019 to help make Dedra's dream a reality!

Update from Catholic East Elementary. There are still a limited number of seats available for the 2020-2021 school year. We are so pleased to have you and your child(ren) as part of our Catholic East family! We would like to have more just like you! Don’t forget to recommend us to family and friends who are looking for a richly diverse school environment for their child(ren), one that promotes the pursuit of academic excellence, nurtures strong moral development, and fosters lifelong learning through living out the Gospel values. Click here and share our information regarding enrollment and a preview of our school. For more information or to enroll, contact us at 414-964-1770, Mondays – Thursdays, 10:00 am – 1:30 pm, or email kdahlgren@catholiceast.org.

Virtual Food Drive. We know that our parishioners are incredibly dedicated to supporting the ongoing ministry of the Riverwest Food Pantry. Although the pandemic has required the cancellation of all food drives for RWFP (including the physical donation of the “Item of the Week” at our parish Masses), we would like to support the Community of Generosity with a Virtual Food Drive. It’s easy! Instead of purchasing your Item of the Week and bringing it with you to Mass, all you have to do is visit https://yougivegoods.com/rwfp-familyoffourparishes-august, click on your parish, and then shop. It really is that easy… and will have a lasting impact on supporting the needs of our neighbors! Our August goal is 2000 pounds of food, so let’s see what we can do! Thank you for your generous giving!! If you have any questions about this food drive, please contact Laura Hancock at hancockl@archmil.org.

Parish Financial Support. We continue to be humbled by your financial support of the parish during these tender and tenuous times. Thank you so much, it has been amazing to witness the generosity of so many! Please mail in your envelopes and contributions to our parish office (Old St. Mary Parish, 835 N Milwaukee St, Milwaukee, WI 53202), and our parish staff will process these.

Please do not hesitate to contact me (Cell: 414-762-7986; kitzket@archmil.org) or Fr. John (Cell: 414-305-3824; baumgardnerj@archmil.org) if you need anything! Be assured of our love and prayers.

Sincerely, with love,
Fr. Tim
