Executive Update

Message from the President

Dear MRSA colleagues,

I hope as this newsletter reaches your inbox and that you, your family and friends are healthy and safe. We are in uncertain times.

I am writing this and sitting in my basement office, it feels different and strange. We have all been asked to change our personal and professional lives at a speed that many of us may have never experienced before. Other than the two World Wars and the Spanish Flu, there has not been a time where our global village has been impacted to the extent we observe today.

I am missing the great sense of community on our campus. The busy hallways bustling with students and colleagues, and  the amount of positive energy they bring. I am very grateful that we have had an opportunity to work from home to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on MRU and the City’s communities.  Also, I understand that there are a few colleagues who might be still working on campus due the nature of their role. At the time of this writing, there are approximately 120 employees including staff, faculty, managers and administrators who are still going to campus.

As much as we have been impacted on our campus, our city, our province and our country, I believe this is a tipping point for a shift to something new and different; for example, working from home, guaranteed universal income, use of technology to deliver education and many more; even though we may view this as crisis, it is forcing us to “think outside of the box” and to be innovative.

The COVID-19 virus and the mandated social distancing has created ongoing and escalating consequences and worries. However, we have to remind ourselves to be grateful of the simple things in life.

Stay safe and be healthy,

Committee Update
PD Day Committee

The committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming 2020 MRSA PD Day in order to align with guidelines from Alberta Health Services and Mount Royal University. We appreciate your understanding as we all navigate the evolving nature of our work and volunteer service. Once regular campus operations have resumed, we will reconvene and move forward with securing and planning for a new date.
