Pre-Departure Training Sessions 2016

Saturdays March 2016 @ 9 am - 3:30 pm.  Halifax: Tupper G36; Saint John: Rm. 218. Are you a Dalhousie student in Health Professions, Dentistry or Medicine planning an education experience abroad? All students participating in international electives are required to complete the training.

Global Health Rounds: Dr. Colleen O'Connell

Wed. March 23, 2016 @ 5-6pm.  Fredericton: DECH Rm. 208; Halifax: Tupper G36; Saint John: DMNB Rm. 218. Challenges & Progress: Spinal Cord Injury in the Majority World. Dr. O'Connell is a faculty member at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. She has over 25 years of global health experience and is the founder and chair of Team Canada Healing Hands, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing rehabilitation care and training in developing countries.

Healthcare in Chaos: Best Practices in Global Humanitarian Health Work

Wednesday March 30, 2016 @ 7-9pm. Paul O'Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library, Spring Garden Rd. Halifax, NS.  Join us for an interactive panel discussion with experts in humanitarian health work.  Speakers will share powerful stories and highlight best practices from their experiences mounting critical health operations in countries such as Nepal, Haiti, Sudan, Pakistan, and Indonesia. The discussion will be moderated by Pauline Dakin, CBC Nova Scotia.

Ethical Challenges in Humanitarian Health Work: An Interactive Workshop

Thursday March 31, 2016 @ 9-11am.  CHEB Room 150, University Ave. Halifax. Facilitator: Matthew Hunt, PT, PD, McGill University.  This workshop focuses on ethical challenges encountered by health professionals, logisticians and others involved in humanitarian aid projects in situations of disaster, war or epidemic.  Participants will learn about sources and types of ethical challenges experienced by humanitarian workers. Participants will also have the opportunity to analyze ethical issues using the Humanitarian Health Ethics Analysis Tool (HHEAT).

World Tuberculosis Day - Blog Series:  The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared March 24, 2016 as World Tuberculosis (TB) Day. Over the month of March, the Global Health Office will be publishing a series of blog posts about TB in hopes of raising awareness of its worldwide impact.
