In this Issue
Hound-lovers, it's officially Summer!

It's getting HOT outside! Remember to keep your hounds hydrated and cool! Most hounds love being misted with a spray bottle of water...and they love kiddie pools! Keep them shaded as much as possible and don't leave them outside for extended periods. Greyhounds aren't the best in extreme temperatures - hot or cold! Of course, never leave your Greyhound or ANY pet in a hot car! Check out the AGA Greyhound Handbook  and the Greyhounds for Dummies book for other tips and tricks on caring for your hound!

...and AGA isn't slowing down! We are already talking with our Greyhound sources this week about bringing more hounds into the AGA Adoption Program - within the next couple of weeks! Plans are being made now, so Foster Families that have let us know they're available and ready, watch for communications from your Foster Coordinators as they finalize the intake plans!  You may even be invited to meet the coordinators at the 'hauler' as the greyhounds are delivered to us! That is a very exciting event and I encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity if you can!  And, yes, we're always in need of Foster Families - without them, we have no place for greyhounds to go. So, if you're considering fostering, or adoption (!), complete and submit your application to us today. We could never have too many fosters (or adopters)!

We brought in a beautiful blue 14-month old female just last weekend! AGA Board member Martha Grissom jumped at the chance to foster this sweet girl - now known as Shadow. She's already sparking interest in people and will be ready to be met and fussed over within a couple of weeks, pending her "spa day" and adjustment to living in a home. Martha reports that Shadow's already learning the life of being retired - and she didn't even race!

In addition to our 8 regularly scheduled Meet & Greets each month (yes, 8!), we have several fun and very exciting events coming up! Pet Expo in August, Poochinis & Peticures at Austin Lofty Dog and Puppy Mill Awareness Day in September, and our annual Fall Picnic & Silent Auction in October - and 'no tellin' what else we could come up with!...I've had several folks ask to have another play-date at DogBoys Ranch...).  These are greyt events for us each year and we'll need volunteers to help make them successful! Contact AGA's Events Team, Michael Laing and Stacie Bush, at to get more information and to sign-up to help out!

Thank you to all our board members, foster and adoption folks, friends, and volunteers for all you do to support AGA and the Greyhounds! We can only do what we do with your generous help!

Foster homes needed! Greyhounds are waiting!

Austin Greyhound Adoption is staffed entirely with volunteers dedicated to finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds. Foster homes are always needed to introduce people to these gentle creatures.  AGA doesn't operate a kennel or boarding facility.  Without foster homes, these greyhounds might have no place to go!

Foster families help newly retired racing greyhounds adjust to life in a home. They get to know each dog's personality which helps us to find the best forever home possible.

Austin Greyhound Adoption pays all medical expenses for greyhounds in foster care, and all we ask of foster families is that they love their foster dog like one of their own, feed it, and talk to prospective adopters about their foster dog.

The number of greyhounds we can bring into our program is limited only by the number of available foster homes. Please contact us if you would like to open your home and heart to a greyhound on their journey from the track to their forever family.

June's Featured Hound
Alba is a sweet 7 year old with a lot of heart. She has had some health issues but is ready to meet her forever family. She is a bit shy and would do best in a home with only adults. Could you be the one?!?
Did you love our warm winter? So did the parasites in the soil and ground. We have had an increased number of hookworm infections. Make sure you monitor your dogs "doos" and if you see a change in consistency, weight loss, lethargy get a fecal done at your vet. Be wary of dog parks and places where the "doos" are not picked up. Hookworms will live in the soil and can get into your dog through contact. Also, don't forget about flea and tick preventatives! Many diseases can be transmitted through parasites!
Did you know that AGA has its own official Greyhound Handbook, including a Foster Manual?  This handbook is packed with valuable information and answers to your Greyhound questions! You can download a copy of it HERE! Every AGA Adopter and Foster should have one!

Did you know that your AGA Greyhound comes with lifetime microchip registration?
Your AGA Adopted Greyhound is microchipped & registered with PetLink prior to adoption! If you have not previously registered the microchip for your AGA Adopted Greyhound, please let us know. We can help you! Contact us for more information!
July 4th is fast approaching! Remember to keep your hounds safe during the festivities.  Most don't like like loud noises, loud voices & thunder - but fireworks and their explosive sounds are the worst!  Keep your hound inside with you if you can. Always keep collars and tags on your hound! Check those fences and gates! And, if you must leave, make sure to leave a radio or television on loud enough to muffle the fireworks.  Keep your hound safe and happy!
Austin Greyhound Adoption has placed over 420 Greyhounds in loving homes and still counting! Adoption fees only cover part of the cost of readying a Greyhound for adoption. The remainder is paid for by generous donations by Hound-lovers like YOU! Your tax-deductible donation will help even more hounds race into loving homes! Please donate today!
