UPDATE FROM THE
SECTION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

This week, SoWH announced the membership vote on these proposed changes for the SoWH Bylaws.  Confirming what we relayed in our letter to our membership, SoWH is an organization that is moving forward. In moving forward, we want to ensure that our Bylaws continue to (1) empower our members, (2) enhance all areas of equal access to voting and meeting participation, and (3) ensure strategic management of our volunteer leaders.

Please know that all of our actions are focused on ensuring that your SoWH leadership is focused that our association continues to advance global excellence in abdominal and pelvic health through evidence-based practice, innovative education, research, and social responsibility.

UPDATE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Bylaws are the rules that an association adopts to govern itself.  Bylaws are how an organization establishes it priorities, and demonstrates its values. It is healthy for associations to review their bylaws every few years to ensure that their values and culture are being reflected in their rules. As we evolve as professionals and as a global society, our values and culture also evolves.

In proposing these bylaws changes, a main focus for all of the SoWH Board was for the document to be updated using plain language that easily digestible. The ease of access to understanding the SoWH Bylaws by far demonstrates the commitment of the SoWH Board as caretakers of our greater community and of the abdominal and pelvic health specialty.  I hope you take the opporunity to read the bylaws proposal.  You are also welcome to share your thoughts, questions, and ideas through the SoWH Member Care & Share form.

NAME CHANGE UPDATE

Strategic considerations for an association considering a name change:

#1 Update and confirm the mission + purpose of your association

Evaluate how your current name and new name will align with your mission and purpose.  If your mission and purpose have evolved over the years (e.g. Section on Obstetrics & Gynecology in 1977, and Section on Women's Health in 1995) a name change period is where association leadership explores whether the name change is needed to clarify the evolved mission and purpose.

All women are welcome to complete the survey. You do not have to have urinary leakage to do the survey. The responses will help us to better understand how women think and feel about urinary leakage and the available treatments. The survey will take about 15-minutes to complete. Thank you.
