SOWH MEMBER HIGHLIGHT
Meet Laurie Gauthier, PT, DPT

A few years ago, while reigniting the ‘PT fire’, Laurie sought the advise of a few wise mentors who gave her the boost she needed and helped her find her niche in the PT world working in pelvic health. She owes a great deal of gratitude to these women because they helped saved her from going a direction outside of PT. Every man and woman that Laurie treats for pelvic dysfunction and orthopedic limitations, are a reminder of why she chose this specialty. Laurie truly believes that she can help an under-represented population find that missing link in their treatment and help fully restore them, and let them know that she (Laurie) hears their concerns, and genuinely cares about them.

Laurie truly believes that physical therapists would be an unstoppable force for good as advocates for our patients and as part of the healthcare team if we band together to help build'' each other up.

Written by Tamra Wroblesky, PT, DPT

It was a predestined match- meeting Alison was the single best thing that happened to me, and I know she would say the same. From the first day we met, we complimented each other perfectly. NAME CHANGE UPDATE

Founded in 1977, the Section on Women’s Health of the American Physical Therapy Association was incorporated under the original name of the Section on Obstetrics and Gynecology.  The professional association served as a resource for continuing education and knowledge needed by physical therapists interested in healthcare of women before, during, and after pregnancy.

Members voted to change the Section name in 1995 to Section on Women’s Health to mark the specialized education required to address women’s physical therapy needs. In 2011, the organization updated its mission and vision statements to recognize Section members who also treat males affected by incontinence, pelvic pain, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis.
