Ch..Ch..Changes in 2018.

Change can be fantastic, and sometimes happen a bit slower than we prefer.  There are important changes coming to SoWH in 2018. The first update includes:

1) PT Locator - We are happy to report that we are moving to an upgraded PT Locator, that will be more accurate and user friendly for our PT Members and for the Patient Community. We plan to release the new PT Locator by Jan 31, 2018 at the latest.  This process has been a long-time coming, and we look forward to bringing this upgraded tool to you.

There has been a long-standing call for the development of more culturally-relevant and informed spaces for education, clinical practice, leadership, and research. As leaders in our field and specialty, the Section on Women's Health has created the Minority Health Task Force to identify areas of improvement and development. As an initial step, the Minority Health Task Force is conducting a community assessment to gather information on the current needs, concerns, and resources among the SOWH membership. Please take a few moments to fill out the Minority Health Survey. We look forward to getting your feedback!

Let's discuss a successful name change example.

In 2016, an association desired to get more of its “why” into the name. The old name focused on the historical terminology of its industry. The new name focused on a more inclusive terminology for the industry. And, thus this name change was successful.

"The Convention Industry Council has changed its name to the Events Industry Council. A brand task force worked with the CIC's board to reevaluate the future of the organization. According to the EIC, "It became apparent a name change was needed to better reflect the direction of the industry and the organizations we represent. 'Events' consistently came to the forefront as the most universal, progressive and preferred descriptor."

Please continue to share your Name Change recommendations and perspectives through the SoWH Member Care & Share form.
This week in ByLaws, we begin sharing a deeper rationale for each of our proposed amendments.  This week our focus is on Component Membership.

Component Voting
-> Area of focus: increase member access to voting AND give equal voting power to all eligible categories

This amendment is designed to give more equality to eligible voting members.  This amendment proposes to give PTs and PTAs 1 vote each (no ambiguity about PTAs having 1/2 votes).

This amendment also proposes to give eligible voting SoWH members access to vote an all SoWH meetings including Annual, Special, Regional, and Virtual.  This amendment is designed to give all eligible voting SoWH members access to make decisions if you attend in person, or if you are attending virtually.  The goal is to give equal access to voting to all SoWH eligible members to all SoWH member votes.
We encourage you to share your questions, feedback and ideas on the Bylaws Proposal through the SoWH Member Care & Share form.

The American Physical Therapy Association is writing a Clinical Practice Guideline to help with the care of women with urinary leakage. We would like your opinion. All women are welcome to complete the survey. You do not have to have urinary leakage to do the survey. The responses will help us to better understand how women think and feel about urinary leakage and the available treatments. The survey will take about 15-minutes to complete. Thank you.
**Note: This survey is focused on the patient/general public community.**
