UMA WEEKLY UPDATE
March 5, 2020
Thank you to the families that were able to attend conferences last week.  Working in partnership, UMA students are more guaranteed of a successful school experience.  If you were unable to attend, contact your student's advisor to arrange a time to meet.

To all the families that brought in soup, salads, bread, desserts and beverages for the PTO lunch for staff, thank you, thank you.  Everything was delicious and much appreciated.
Friendly Reminders
School starts at 9:20 am each day.  Arriving late is disruptive to classes and adds up with a loss of learning time for the student.  An extra effort to ensure your student arrives to school by 9:15  each morning would be appreciated.

So we remain in good standing with our surrounding neighbors, there is no parent pick-up in front of the school on Exchange Street. Options for picking up students at the end of the day :
  • Use the nearby 7A parking ramp where vehicles can enter for free from 4:15-5:15, students will be brought over the skyway by staff and meet you in the 2nd floor lobby
  • Arrange a pick-up point on nearby streets a block or two away from school where it is less congested.
  • Pick-up on Wabasha Avenue after the school buses have left at 4:40 pm.
Check with your student on the status of their school supplies.  By this time of the year, many students have run out of pencils, erasers and notebooks.  Teachers have exhausted all the pencils brought in at the start of the school year as well so a restock of pencils is needed.
Lifetouch will be onsite the morning of Thursday, March 19 to take photos of students new to UMA and of any students that order a photo package.  The spring photos consists of more informal backgrounds and poses.  Families can order packages before March 19 at the Lifetouch website mylifetouch.com and use the code EVTRNBZ39.  Order forms are also available in the school office so students can pick-up and bring home if needed.
INTENT TO RETURN TO UMA
We would appreciate UMA families taking a few minutes to complete the Intent to Return form for each student they have here so we have an indication of how many students will be returning at each grade level next year.  The online form is available on the school's website and can be found here as well.  Don't forget, siblings of current UMA students receive 'sibling preference' in next year's enrollment process, so be sure to complete an online 2020-2021 application for them.
The recent cold and flu season has depleted our back-to-school donations of tissue boxes and containers of sanitizing wipes.  On your next trip to the store, UMA classrooms would appreciate a restock of these items.  Students can bring directly to their advisors.  Thank you for helping us combat the winter germs.
Job Openings at UMA
UMA is accepting applications for special education paraprofessionals and on-call licensed substitute teachers.  The paraprofessional position is flexible for part-time or full-time hours with benefits.  This is a good opportunity to work on a school schedule and have summers off.  Spread the word among friends and family members that might be interested.  The school's website has complete job descriptions and application instructions.
