UMA WEEKLY UPDATE
November 19, 2020

Give to the Max Day is today - Thursday, November 19!

Challenging times help us see new and different ways of thinking and doing.  Providing non-traditional teaching and support for students is not new to UMA, but providing experiential learning to students over zoom requires new methods and designs.  That is why this year’s Give to the Max fund drive is focused on creating “school to home kits” to bring the classroom in a different way to students in their homes.

We are grateful for the support of our friends and family during this year’s GiveMN fund drive.

At this time, your donations have totaled $4,588 toward our goal of $9,000.  As many of you know, a group of supporters pooled their money to provide a $2000 challenge match for the first $2000 raised today!  We only need $580 more in donations today to untap this match.

Can you help?

Simply donate online through GiveMN or donate directly to UMA through our Paypal Giving Fund using the donation buttons below.

UMA thanks you for your support of our life-long learners!

UMA is asking for your support during this year’s 2020 GiveMN fund drive to help raise $9000 ($30/student) to purchase hands-on learning supplies in all areas of academics, packaged as “school to home kits.” Since we cannot consistently be in the classroom, UMA wants to “bring the classroom to students in their homes.”

Think about the learning students can experience by participating in class projects, community day activities, or clubs that blend academics, fun, and community building.  Some areas are listed below, many more are obtainable:

  1. Gardening/essential ingredients kits that provide students with their own indoor garden (bulbs and or herbs) materials.

  2. Safe Science - experiment ingredients and equipment

  3. Knitting/crochet/loom kits –  needles, yarn, various looms.

  4. UMaker sewing kit – Sewing supplies, patterns, accessories (buttons, zippers, trim, etc.) and fabric.

  5. Beginning carpentry kit – the “art” of joinery; frame making supplies using limited tools.

  6. Friendship kits – e.g. lanyard bracelet supplies, beading, jewelry making supplies.

  7. Outdoor Connections - observation and collection kits for use outdoors in all seasons

  8. And the list goes on!!!  (possibly instrument making, a student driven idea yet to be unearthed, or maybe an idea from you!)
