Message from Executive Director
Families and Members of our UMA Community -
It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Stephanie Zeitz passed away unexpectedly after suffering from a heart attack. Stephanie started with UMA this fall as our 8th grade science teacher and also supported students in Advisory and WIN classes. We know she was actively building relationships with all the students she interacted with throughout the school year. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.
Our school has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, household members, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. UMA has counselors available for any student who may need or want help surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources. In addition, UMA has reached out to a grief support team that is specifically designed to support schools in this type of event.
Links to information that may be useful to you in helping your child at home are listed below. If you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our school social workers, Joclyn Tiedt, and Elizabeth Sullivan or our school counselor, Anna Walters.
We are saddened by this loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as needed.
