Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”

Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “The Year of Legends 2017 presents an opportunity to build on the truly distinctive identity Wales has on the world stage, by allowing us to capitalise on Wales’s rich culture and heritage to stand-apart from our competitors. In doing so, we want to reinforce positive perceptions of our country, and position Wales as a high-quality, relevant and contemporary 21st century destination. The Year of Legends is our chance to immerse people in our epic story. And an opportunity to create legendary experiences for everyone.” Tourism providers across Wales are being encouraged to create or theme product and experiences using Wales’s legends as inspiration – ranging from our historic heroes and sporting greats to the country’s iconic heritage sites and legendary tales.

Introducing one of our members

Ronald Madge

"I paint in the medium of watercolours, oils, pastels and mixed media. I did a two year course on mixed media with Coleg Sir Gar Llandovery. I have ‘O’level GCE but no other qualifications.
Since having a mental illness in 1980 I took up painting seriously as a therapy, I have been painting quite a bit since going in to care which has helped my art work develop over the years. I have sold a few paintings and have had one exhibition in Llandovery in 2014. I am aged 68."

"Born in Aberystwyth.  Studied Anthropology University College, London.  Suffered severe brain injury at a Kibbutz in Isreal shortly after university.  Has lived in or near Pontardawe for many years.  Precious exhibition of paintings based on Dylan Thomas’s poems at the Dylan Thomas Theatre Swansea."

Introducing our member

Craig Leanney

"Craig Leanney studied Sculpture at Carmarthen School of Art, and Architectural Glass at Swansea School of Glass.
To get to know a material and all of its properties I need to experiment and explore. I need to play. I need to push boundaries and fail. Making mistakes is all part of the creative process, and can often lead to “happy accidents”. I love to experiment with different materials.  Variety is the spice of life! I discovered that when I visited art galleries and degree shows, that however much I enjoyed the 2 dimensional pictures, paintings and photographs, I REALLY connected with anything 3D."
