The CPMR was invited by the REGI Committee Chair, Younous Omarjee, to participate in the REGI Committee meeting on the 21 January 2020. Enrico Rossi, President of Tuscany and CPMR Vice-President for Cohesion Policy had the opportunity to discuss and exchange views with the European Commissioner for Cohesion Policy and Structural Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, on key issues for the future of cohesion policy during her intervention at the REGI Committee the same day.

The CPMR brings a regional focus to COP25 in Madrid
A CPMR delegation, led by Cees Loggen, CPMR Vice-President for Climate and Energy and Regional Minister of Noord-Holland, attended the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP25), which was held in Madrid on 2-13 December 2019. The CPMR delegation had the opportunity to meet with different regional authorities and to organise a side event at the EU Pavilion.
A new wave in the activities of the Atlantic Arc Commission
The Atlantic Arc Commission has set up a new Working Group for Cooperation in the Atlantic to examine three key matters of importance to effective cooperation, such as cooperation with UK partners, and exploring the potential of an Atlantic Macro Region.
CPMR BSC Executive Committee in discussions with the Finnish EU Minister Tytti Tuppurainen
Minister Tuppurainen attended a special side event of the Executive Committee, and she opened the meeting by saying that she shares the Baltic Sea Commission’s view that regions have a pivotal and important role to play in the European Cooperation.
The Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance counts with its first official supporter
The Standing Committee for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Local and Regional Authorities (Comitato Permanente Partenariato Euro-Mediterraneo dei Poteri Locali e Regionali – COPPEM) has added its signature to the Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance.
The Balkan and Black Sea Commission actively participated in the Regional Stakeholders Conference organised by the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) in Athens. The event provided a platform for dialogue to stakeholders from both EU Member States and non-EU Black Sea countries and stimulated the discussion, steering the future actions of the Black Sea Synergy initiative.
The CPMR Geographical Commissions are involving the youth trough different initiatives. The North Sea Commission has recruited a youth advisor, Esme Leitch. During a year, Esme has the main task to involve youth perspectives in the NSC’s regular work.
Partners from the wider Black Sea region establish a network for innovative education
The MINE-EMI project (Maritime Innovative Network of Education for Emerging Maritime Issues) is a new Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership Project that aims to bridge the gap between emerging maritime issues and educational training in order to ensure a sustainable development in the areas of maritime planning transportation and logistics. A feedback survey has been developed to collect feedback and allow to better identify the requirements of the sector and be able to fill in the gaps.
The Atlantic Arc Commission (AAC) Secretariat and fellow CleanAtlantic partners met during three days at the Marine Institute in Galway from 2-4 December 2019, to discuss the results of the project and plan the last year of implementation.
Meeting and Sharing: Next2Met policy learning event
On 14-15 January 2020, Next2Met partners and stakeholders came together for their first Policy Learning Event in Lahti, Finland. This two-day event aimed at fostering an interregional exchange in order to increase the attractiveness of the regions through soft digitalisation measures.
