Being Thankful

Yes... it is cliche for this time of year. All year,Thursdays on Yoke social media, have been saved for #thankfulThursday. Over the next 30 days we will share a question related to some aspect of gratitude daily.

readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness

Each day a moment of reflection is being offered to pause. Folks who leave their reflections on the Yoke's FB page will be entered to receive one grand gift of:
- a complimentary year-long Yoke membership

Yoga saved me!

This last Halloween marks 30 years since Yoga entered my life. It entered without any label, without fancy pants, or a special name. Specialty labels for Yoga were basically non-existent at the time. I did these practices by myself, because I knew of nowhere to go to join others. Mainly though, it was (and still is) a very personal practice for me. I didn’t enter an actual studio till almost a decade later. Stretching in postures and meditation began as strictly a coping mechanism. These practices assisted me in alleviating anxieties provoked by endless pokes of chemotherapy needles. It gave me a window of comfort in the middle of the night as I lay considering the tumor lying between my heart and lungs, and its’ power to bring me down. It took my mind somewhere, away from the physical pain of the burning chemicals in my veins; and to a peaceful place as I lay beneath the massively intimidating radiation machines. Amongst the noise of hospital rooms, where I went often, I could lean into the silent spaces of my mind for comfort. These Yogic practices offered me insights to see beyond my fears as doctors twisted their faces attempting to relate to the 20 year old in front of them. What I now call Yoga allowed me to see beyond the 50% chance of surviving a year. It brought me to a place of calm in the cancer storm rolling through my life.

***In the Works***
Teacher Training
STAY TUNED: We are in the beginning stages of creating a multi-level Yoga immersion to teacher training offering. All of these will be based on a sliding scale fee.

Sustain, Step One: Immerse yourself deeply in Yoga (the full spectrum of the margas/Yoga's paths). Individuals will gain a deeper understanding and experience of Yoga beyond the mental and physical aspects taught in a typical class. This week long experience of self discovery is about creating a sustainable life practice through Yogic principle practices.

Unite, Step Two: Individuals may then continue on to participate theYoke's
Teacher Training Certification Program. Both the curriculum and staff have a depth of knowledge in a wide spectrum of components essential to being an impactful teacher.

Serve, Step Three: Individuals who complete the first two steps will be invited to be part of the Pay It Forward component of theYoke's programming. This provides
ongoing mentorship and resource support to new Yoga teachers (a component often not part of Yoga teacher training programs). These individuals will also be part of a kula grounded in deep community sustainable practices this will allow them to also be part of service to each other and their larger community.

Contact LauraLynn for more information.
