Researchers will convene to host a discussion on megaregional trends and prospects, as well as an academic forum to introduce and share institutional research. Updates on Megaregion Research

What is a Megaregion?

CM2 research focuses on megaregions. A UT School of Architecture article discusses the varying definitions and scopes of planning challenges that exist within megaregions, as highlighted by CM2 researchers themselves. Read the full article here.

The New CM2 Website

The updated layout disseminates news, events, projects, and other activities in a comprehensive and easily navigable way. The site provides program updates and will continue to publish reports. Visit our new website here.

CM2 Research Updates, Publications, and Other Accomplishments

Program Progress Perfomance Report (PPPR)

The biannual PPPR covers the full list of accomplishments and updates. Throughout the previous reporting period (June 2017 - March 2018), the grant funded 26 researchers and 22 students. The research focused on four key research areas: law, policy, and planning; modeling; freight; and equity. Read the full report here.

Publications & Articles

In the last year, CM2 research has been published in 3 journals, summarized in 2 books, presented 6 times at various conferences, discussed in 7 articles, and disseminated on three websites.


Researchers have presented at the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) Conference, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) meeting, and a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) workshop. Read more about CM2's involvement in TRB and the FHWA workshop.

Student Accomplishments

Three students at the University of Texas at Austin received awards and fellowships through their work as CM2 graduate research assistants.
  • Greg Griffin, a Ph.D. candidate working with Dr. Junfeng Jiao, received the 2017-2018 Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program grant in December 2017.
  • Paulina Urbanowicz, a Master’s student and graduate research assistant to Ms. Lisa Loftus-Otway, was selected as an Eno Fellow for the 2018 Transportation Leadership Development Conference program.
  • Brendan Goodrich, a Master’s student and graduate research assistant to Dr. Ming Zhang, received the 2017 UTC Outstanding Student of the Year Award. Read more about his award here.
