This Week at the Statehouse
In less than a week, the 2017 Legislative session will begin. The House of Representatives will gavel in at 2:00 p.m. on January 9, 2017 and we will take our oath of office. I have been very busy since the General Election on Nov. 8th attending legislative orientation sessions and informative presentations regarding issues to be dealt with this next session.
My first official duty was to participate in leadership elections for the House at 10:00 a.m. on December 5th. Representative Ron Ryckman, Jr., District 78 (Olathe) was chosen as Speaker of the House. Two weeks later, all freshmen legislators were invited to participate in a Leadership Symposium titled, “Your Leadership and Legacy in the Statehouse” at the Kansas Leadership Center in Wichita. It was not only informative, but allowed new legislators the opportunity to get to know one another prior to the session starting.
The Speaker has assigned me to the following committees that are also of deep interest to me:
Children and Seniors
Financial Institutions and Pensions
General Government Budget
I appreciate the opportunity to use my expertise, background, and education on issues of importance to the 52nd District and the entire state. I am truly ready to get to work in the most positive and collaborative way possible.
