A Slow Week

Hi Farm Friends,

There isn't a whole heck of a lot to tell you this week, to be honest. I thought about skipping this newsletter altogether, but it's nice to keep a consistent conversation going, even if it's a couple of days late.

There has been some moving and shaking at the farm. Big pigs have been taken in to the butcher, and small pigs have been added to the farm. 200 ready-to-lay hens showed up this week, and soon we'll be knee-deep in eggey goodness (geez, re-write that line. Gross!). The turkeys are passing their teenage dinosaur phase and are morphing into beastly monsters. And the meat chickens are voraciously packing on the pounds to the benefit of us all.

In short, farming is happening. Harvesting will begin soon. We've been lining up the beginning of harvest season with the first week of St Pete's Saturday Morning Market, because let's face it, that's our bread and butter. It's an amazing market and it makes up at least half of our business. And luckily, it starts at the best time for having chickens ready.

But since it's closed the next two weekends, we will be stocking downtown Tampa's Meacham Urban Farm with choice cuts of pork and beef. Travis will be there this Saturday and Sunday, if you'd like to drop in. And, if you're in a volunteering mood, Sunday we'll be having a tree planting and general workday. The official volunteer slots are filled, but nobody's ever been turned away from weeding or picking up trash. Also, we'll be digging up peanuts! It starts Sunday at 9:30am.

TrailBale Farm is attending a fun-looking market on Saturday, Sept 25th called Meet Florida Meats. It's a state-wide gathering of small farms, and it's happening on a legit pig farm. I like to go to these things mainly to meet other farmers and get inspired, but I'll have the freezers with me selling meats too. If you're in Groveland, FL on that weekend, come say hi!

And reserve that turkey in the online store! Fresh ones are selling quickly, and frozen ones are super-good as well.
