What do we have cooking for summer?

Hi Farm Friends,

I notice that I refer to "this year" and "next year" as two things separated by September 1st. Farmer-types and astute consumers (which I'm sure you're one) seem to understand this intuitively. But when I tell people I won't have chicken again until next year, some will say "January?" No, dear readers, next farming season. After this dreaded summer dead zone has come and mostly gone.

And the dreaded season kicks off the first week of June, with the traditional shuffling of the markets. St Pete's big market goes to its little footprint Williams Park persona. I will be there this year, but only every other week. To be honest, the old man still has too many irons in the fire, and he's going to back off a little in the slow season. I may take a couple of those Saturdays off, but I'll most likely be down at Meacham Urban Farm for the big market day. Oh, and St Pete drive-through service is dropping too. But I'm flexible at Williams Park, and very close to the street. I can run it to your car if you like.

Also, Sweetwater's market is closed for the season. But they have a nice new option for summer. Sweetwater has opened a Cafe and Farm Store that will be open Sundays 9am to 4pm. Our lil' meat freezer will be there, stocked with what we have available. The Cafe will have coffee, kombucha and more. And it sounds like a few farms will be represented in the store. Go check it out!

As for Meacham Urban Farm, we are keeping the same days and hours through the summer. Saturday 9am to 1pm, and Sunday 10am to 1pm. The meats are also available meat freezer-style. And, since you read this far, I can tell you that the Meacham CSA Farm Card season has re-opened, and they are available here.

As for TrailBale production, it'll be slow over the summer. The last meat chickens are on the field, and will be processed in the next two weeks. I don't expect the chicken reserves to last very deep into summer. Eggs will be light, too, as we're rotating out some of the older girls. The best news out of TrailBale Town is that pork will be plentiful. We still have a lot from last processing, and we'll be harvesting some more in the next few weeks. I am really happy with how the pork is coming out, and with how well they do on the farm.

Okay, I think that's enough to chew on for now. This week is last week at the big St Pete market, and it's a delivery week. Thanks for the support, and I hope to see you out in the heat at a farm or market.
As always, the online store inventory will be updated Tuesday at 8pm.
