There's no better way to WRAP up the PRESENT like looking back on our year...
Thanks to ALL for an outstanding year at REACH!
It all started when Jordan Moore choose to return as our Summer Service Camp Director, opening up all sorts of possibilities for 2018! From there, we hired Casey Heinlein as our full time Director of Operations and Community Engagement; there has been no stopping REACH since then.
We purchased our third and fourth abandoned homes – the “Dale Sisters” on Dale Ave in SE Roanoke.
We put our “Escape from Poverty” Room in full action, running over 250 folks through its interactive and fully immersive experience of what it’s like to try and find your way out of poverty.
We hired our NRP (Neighborhood Revitalization Project) Construction Coordinator, Michael Fox, to oversee our work teams & projects, and we immediately felt the benefits of matching skills, a passion to make a difference, self-motivation, and a unique ability to get things done.
We finished our first home in our Neighborhood Revitalization Project (1718 Edmund Ave). We have a contract on the home and hope to have the family moved in before Christmas. We also finished our second home in our Neighborhood Revitalization Project and currently have it on the market (709 Stewart Ave SE).
AND, starting today (December 1), our newest staff member, Mary Spencer, has taken over our office as our Office and Facilities Manager. Her life and work experiences, her devotion to serving others, and her maturity yet youthful demeanor, make her uniquely qualified for this position. Her chief duties will include keeping the REACH team on track through the coordination of calendars and schedules, interoffice communication, facility usage, volunteer tracking, and utilizing and finding community partners, as well as aiding each of our team members as requested. Mary will be serving the first nine months (December through August 2019) as a full-time AmeriCorps Member with great expectations for this position to become a full-time REACH employee at its conclusion.
There is a better than average chance that there will be three more AmeriCorps Members joining our team by mid-January, as well as an intern from Hollins University. Visit the employment page on our website for the AmeriCorps job descriptions.
We couldn’t have done any of this without your mighty hands and generous contributions. Please go to our website to sign up to volunteer or to make a monetary donation. 2019 is just around the corner and we want all of you to make next year just as outstanding (if not more) as 2018!
