Welcome to this week’s e-news.

Last Friday I attended the Constructing Excellence South West Construction Summit followed by their Awards in Bristol. The Summit was excellent and had some great speakers. Congratulations go to all the winners from the South West Awards and we will look forward to seeing them at the National Awards later on this year along with all the regions finalists. I would like to thank my colleague from CESW, Andrew Carpenter, and his team for their wonderful hospitality.

Meanwhile back in the North East Leanne and Lauren attended the RICS North East Matrics Ball at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle with some of our G4C committee. They all had a great evening and enjoyed catching up with many of you there.

On Saturday I was guest of Elliott Associates at the Gus Robinson Foundation Ball at Hardwick Hall. I would like to thank everyone for a fabulous evening and many congratulations to the ball committee who managed to raise a magnificent £12,000.00 for the Foundation.

This week Leanne and I have been in London on Constructing Excellence business to discuss the 2017 Awards for the UK and Wales. The Awards will be slightly amended in terms of the categories, application form and how to enter so please keep an eye out for further details coming out in the autumn.

Yesterday Leanne and I were at Stockton Riverside College’s ‘Building your Construction Career’ with support from G4C, RICS Matrics, CIOB, NAWIC and Keepmoat. The event was a great way for school pupils between years 9 and 10 to hear about the different types of professions within the industry. We would like to thank John Cartwright for organising the event and our special thanks go to Kate Lloyd, Emma Graham, Esh Group and Puneet Vedhera for their fantastic contribution to our sessions.

Next week we will be busy preparing the finishing touches for the CENE 2016 Awards and we are getting very excited for the ceremony! If you haven’t yet sent in your guest names or received your tickets then please contact Leanne immediately.

We also have three events taking place, on Thursday is the Wildlife in Construction in association with NAWIC North East at Hardwick Hall then on the evening is the G4C North East Managing Construction Contracts with DAC Beachcroft and then finally to end the week is First Friday Club. All of these events have a few places remaining so please contact us to book.

We hope you all have a wonderful Bank Holiday Weekend, that the sunshines and any of you attending the magnificent international sporting events going on in the region both at the Stadium of Light and Emirates Riverside have an enjoyable time.

Best wishes

Catriona

Time: 8.30am – 11.30am
Venue: Offices of Ward Hadaway, Newcastle upon Tyne
Cost: Free to CENE Club Members, £40+VAT Non Members (Cancellation policy is within 48 hours notice)

Constructing Excellence in the North East Club are delighted to be working with our Constructing Excellence Asset Management Group in delivering you this half day seminar surrounding Asset and Facilities Management on a construction project.

Some say the single most damaging mistake in industry today is the common practice of overlooking asset management concepts during the design, construction and start-up of major new facilities. The global cost of this poor management practice is truly astronomical. New facilities experience excessive unplanned downtime, resulting in excessive costs and loss of critical production due to quality and quantity issues. These losses can be avoided by implementing proper business processes and good operational planning prior to facility start-up.

But, where do we start? Operating practices? Maintenance practices? Design?

At this seminar we will hear from:
- Tom Cudmore of the Constructing Excellence Asset Management Group. In February Constructing Excellence joined Whole Life Plus (WLP+), a project which has secured Innovate UK and EPSRC funding to research how building performance can be improved to enhance worker productivity and well-being to create happier, healthier and more productive workplaces. Tom Cudmore from LCMB will talk about the details of the WLP+ project and share the initial research findings from the first quarter, which has looked at the impact of different environmental changes on workplace performance

- Michael Anderson of Esh Facilities
- Richard Farrey of Silverstone Building Consultancy
