February 2017
Dear Members,
We hope you are having a peaceful beginning to the new year. We are all busy preparing for the season ahead which will be upon us before we know it! The new biennial Members' Directory is in the pipeline, and work has begun to collate all of the new information you have given us. Thanks go to those Members who have been in touch to update their information.
Over the coming weeks you may notice some small changes here and there to the website functions, including some changes to the appearance of the Member Directory when you print it out. You can now click onto an email address and email a contact directly from the members directory. We have listened to the feedback you have given us and are undergoing some further development to improve your experience of the website. If there is anything you are unsure about with regard to using the website, click here to have a look through our prompt document, and do get in touch if that doesn't provide the answer you are looking for.
This month's edition is following the same format as the January edition, but as always, if there is anything you think we could improve on we would love to hear your comments.

January Monthly Lunch
Zarnie Coad organised the Monthly lunch on Thursday 19th January, with a wonderful talk from Mike Samuelson on the adventures of HMS Pique. She certainly saw some challenges during her commission. It was a great opportunity for Members to enjoy the Library as it is now home to artifacts such as this sideboard which was once a feature onboard HMS Pique.

In Memoriam
Linda Cullinan
We are sad to report the death of Linda Cullinan on Sunday 22nd January. A wonderful Memorial Service was held with a packed church in Battersea on Tuesday 31st January there were many members in attendance. Linda had previously been Rear Commodore (House) between the years 2012-2013 and was the mainstay of catering during the summer Cadet weeks at the Club. She had a great flare of bringing together new parents within the Club by making them feel welcome. She will be greatly missed.
Guy Hanbury
We are sad to report Guy Hanbury died peacefully on Sunday 29th January after a long illness. Guy had been a Member of the Club since 2004. Guy was an Assistant Race Officer and regularly seen on the committee boat throughout the year. He will be greatly missed
Details of arrangements will follow.

Tales from Tom's Kitchen
If you are stuck for what to cook for that perfect Valentine's Day meal, why not give Tom's recipe a go. They are decadent, moist and delicious.
TOM’S RED VELVET CHEESECAKE SWIRL BROWNIES
Ingredients
2 large Eggs
115g Unsalted Butter
200g Granulated Sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
21g Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1/8 Teaspoon Salt
1 Tablespoon Red Food Colouring
¾ Teaspoon White Wine Vinegar
95g Plain Flour
|
Cheesecake Swirl
224G Cream Cheese, softened
50g Granulated Sugar
1 Egg Yolk
½ Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Preheat Oven to 180 degrees
|
Making the Brownie Layer
Beat the eggs together and set aside.
Melt the butter and stir in the sugar then add the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, salt, food colouring and vinegar. Mix these ingredients into the batter in that order.
Whisk in the eggs and then fold in the flour. Do not over mix.
Pour the brownie mix into a baking tray, leaving approximately 3 or 4 tablespoons of the batter for the top.
Making the Cheesecake Swirl
Beat the softened cream cheese with the sugar and egg yolk then add the vanilla extract.
Dollop the cheesecake swirl onto the prepared brownie mixture and top off with the remaining brownie batter. Drag a knife through the layers, creating a swirl pattern.
Bake the brownies for 28-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares or use a heart shape cutter for Valentines.
Cover brownies and store at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to six days.
Brownies will freeze well for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in a refrigerator.
Enjoy! Tom

Members and Weddings
You may notice on the social programme that we have the first wedding of 2017 on Saturday 29th April. It may interest you to know that for this wedding BSC was top of the Bride's venue list as she is a former member of waiting staff, and always dreamed of celebrating her wedding here. The bar will of course be open to Members, and you will be able to come and enjoy a bar lunch as usual.
