Commodore's Section
It's all change this weekend with the keelboats retiring to their sheds for the winter after their last races and the Illusions taking to the water for their new season. It has been a memorable summer, with a busy programme on the water, including new events such as the J70 weekend and the Mediterranean Cruise in Company and a full calendar of social events including some new events, such as the clay pigeon shooting day and then the highlight of the season, our Ball. The weather has been particularly kind to us this year, very important for our cadet courses and our racing and the bar and dining room have been busy; as a result I think we have all managed to have a lot of fun.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work and support of our staff, who look after us with a smile and to whom I extend a big thank you on behalf of us all. In particular, many congratulations to Daniel and Valerie, who got married during his holiday earlier this month: we wish them a very happy future together.
Thanks also to Mike Samuelson, our Race Officer for organising our racing so efficiently and for filing such entertaining and informative reports and photographs. He sets us excellent courses and spends many hours on the water for our benefit, together with Alexis Dogilewski and the many other volunteer race officers. Being a race officer is, in fact, a fun and rewarding activity and easy to learn if you start with an experienced tutor like Mike. If you would like to give it a go, please let the Secretary or Mike know.
I want to say a huge thank you to Lisa Jessel for all she has done for the Club as we say farewell to her as Rear Commodore (House). She has worked tirelessly through challenging situations to provide Members with first class hospitality and a fun programme of events for all the family. At the same time I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Dorian Campbell, who succeeds her and whom we are so looking forward to having on the Flag Officer team.
You will be pleased to hear that our new Vice Commodore, Jos Coad, has wasted no time in getting his feet firmly under the desk; he is already making a great contribution and we are all excited about having him on the team. I would, again, like to thank Andrew Eddy for all he did during his term in office.
The Club would not run without the hard work done by Members in committee. Thank you to all those listed below who are retiring from committees and welcome to those joining, your time and efforts are much appreciated. We are always interested to know of people who would be interested in serving on a committee so please do not be shy in coming forward to suggest yourself or nominate others.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your support and participation over the last year; your Club is in good health and we will work hard to ensure that it continues to be the Club that you want it to be.

Racing Report
(17th & 18th September)
Saturday was not for the feint hearted with gusts over 20 knots on a regular basis. Not helped as it was from the NW which means there is not much shelter to be had, however the forecast was to drop to f4, so four Redwings & eight One-Designs decided to rig up head out to find the Committee Boat, Sea Breeze, anchored just to the South of St Helens Fort. Philip Bown in No 21 Redwing wisely decided that it was not for them so turned back to the harbout leaving Colin Samuelson in No 11 Toucan, Rosie Gosling in No 45, Gosling and Hugh Martin in No 27 Flycatcher to get on with it.
