The Taj community is dedicated to sharing a space of exploration of the self through movement. We believe racism, oppression and harm have no place in our community or in the world.
Like many of you, we’ve been struggling with overwhelming disgust, rage, embarrassment, shame and frustration in light of the horrific events of the past week. Even more so, we’re dealing with a sense of perceived powerlessness. We struggle to comprehend the enormity of a wrong perpetuated for generations and how we can possibly help begin to right this wrong. As privileged white people we need to find a way.
Broad guidelines get the ball rolling: educating ourselves, looking inward and acknowledging our own racism, and we must look for how we can make an impact. When we seek them, opportunities will arise and we will find ways to help, however small.
We must not let the enormity of racial inequity in our country convince those of us with everyday privilege that we have no power.
