Winter 2016 Newsletter
Thank YOU, our Plaza Academy supporters, for all that you have helped us to accomplish this year.  We would not exist without you!
This has been a historic year for Plaza Academy.  After 42 years in the community, we are finally poised to own our own building. During the first quarter of 2017, Plaza Academy will be moving to 3930 Broadway!  We are expanding from 5500 sq.ft. to over 8200 sq.ft., from 5 classrooms to 10 classrooms, plus a brand new community room!

We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of the community!  Special thanks to Margaret Silva, the Hall Family Foundation, the Kauffman Family Foundation, Bill and Laura Frick, as well as our board of directors and advisory committee for their wisdom, insight and vision.
Our capital project to buy and renovate our building totals $850,000.  To date we have raised $485,000, but we still need to raise $365,000 to make updates to our new building so it can be perfect for our school community.
If you would like to make a donation or know of a grant or foundation that would be a great fit for our project, please let us know by emailing ward@plazaacademy.org or calling us at 816-561-0770.
This has been a tremendous semester for our students and we are so proud of the progress they have made! When students come to Plaza Academy they are often at their lowest point, feeling defeated, depressed and angry; they fear they won't make it through high school. Thanks to our talented and dedicated staff, we've helped our students increase their confidence, showed them that they have the ability to graduate, and gotten them on the right track toward achieving that goal.
Alumni Update: Paul Knightly

Paul, who attended Plaza Academy from 2004-2006, always loved science class.

Now, Paul is keeping busy working on the Mars 360 project, obtaining a PhD in Space and Planetary Sciences at the University of Arkansas, as well as running a landscape and weather photography business on the side.

"The Plaza Academy played a huge role in helping me to recover from a tumultuous middle school experience and to gain the confidence I needed to be successful academically and socially in the years ahead. I truly believe that I would not have been able to pursue my present college education and career paths without the boost I received during my experience here. The Plaza Academy owes its success to its ability to empower students to take ownership of their education and beyond."
Student Spotlight: Jeramy Russell

This is Jeramy's 4th year at The Plaza Academy and he is on track to graduate this May.  Jeramy is an A+ student and serves as a leader and mentor to his peers.  He takes care of the pets at the school and volunteers at the Plaza Academy for all extra activities.

Jeramy received a two-year full ride presidential scholarship to Metropolitan Community College in Longview for Automotive Technology where he will be starting in fall of 2017.

"Plaza Academy saved my life. I didn’t really care about education. I was a troubled kid. You got kids here with great potential and they want to succeed. I know these kids and the Plaza Academy really helps us out, and it makes a difference, it really does."
