MCRB Inputs into the Consultation on Rules to Implement the Mining Law
The Mining Sector-Wide Impact Assessment (SWIA) team recently returned from the second round of field research for the upcoming Mining SWIA. The team looked at artisanal gold mining in Kyaukkyi (Bago Region) and Indawgyi (Kachin State) regions. The team’s next field visits will include Mandalay and Sagaing Division. MCRB has also submitted comments to the Mining Ministry on the draft Regulations for the Mining Law.
Some Pointers for Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment
On February 24 MCRB and PACT MPE (Mekong Partnership for Environment) co-organised a discussion on public participation in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes. The objective was to share expertise on how to incorporate public input in the implementation of Myanmar's new EIA procedures and discuss the development of regional guidelines for public participation in EIAs throughout the Mekong region. In March MCRB will also release a report on the disclosure of EIAs and IEEs by oil and gas companies that have received offshore and onshore blocks in Myanmar since 2013.
Finally, we would like to congratulate the Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration (DICA) on the launch of its new and improved website. It includes details on environmental regulations and a searchable company register. The new website is available in English at www.dica.gov.mm and in Burmese at www.dica.gov.mm/mm.
