Recreational fishing strategy casts net
We’ve started work on a new Mackay Regional Recreational Fishing Strategy. 

The strategy seeks to capitalise on the opportunities presented by Mackay’s Net Free Zone (extending from Cape Hillsborough to St Helens Beach), one of only three in Queensland, as well as our many other recreational fishing assets.

Ticket sales strong for Mackay AFL clash

The NRL trial between the NQ Cowboys and Sydney Roosters last weekend was a big success and now it is the AFL boys’ turn to make their mark on Mackay.

Interest is building ahead of the Gold Coast SUNS v Essendon Bombers JLT Community Series game at Harrup Park on Sunday, February 26, with SUNS players Jack Scrimshaw and Tom Nicholls visiting this week.

We’re seeking public feedback on the future of community halls in the region.

Some community halls are used frequently and for a variety of reasons, but others are under-utilised.

We want to find out why and how we can make these community halls more accessible and relevant in modern society.

Safety Circus
hits the road

The Safety Circus is back on the road.

Safety Circus, produced by second and third-year Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) students, teaches children about protective behaviours, bicycle safety and handling bullying.

We’re a supporter of this initiative, a collaboration between CQUniversity’s CQCM and the Mackay Crime Prevention Unit of the Queensland Police Service.

Book stall at
volunteer expo

Does your community or not-for-profit group need a hand, or a few extra pairs of hands?
 
For the first time, we’re hosting the Mackay Volunteer Expo on Sunday, May 7, and it is free for community groups to have a stall.
 
The expo will be held inside and around the Mackay Senior Citizens Centre and applications are now open for stalls, with 50 spaces available.
