The Sports Expo & Sign On is an annual half day event held in February at the MECC aimed at increasing participation in sporting, active recreation or active leisure pursuits.
Sporting organisations, teams and active leisure groups in the one place to provide a ‘one stop information shop’ for everyone in the Mackay region to get involved in the vast array of active opportunities on offer in the region.

Nominations open for Australia Day Awards
Do you know someone who has inspired you with their achievements in the last year? Whether it be on the sporting field, in their professional career, or through their volunteering efforts in the community, now is the time to recognise them.
Nominations are now open for the Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards. There are eight award categories this year including: Citizen of the Year, Young citizen of the Year; Arts and Culture Award; Community Group Award; Environmental Achievement award; Lori Burgess Community Volunteer Award; Senior Sports Award and; Young Sports Award.
Nominations close at 5 pm on Tuesday 10 January 2017.

Better Community Building Fund
Council’s successful economic stimulus measure – the Better Community Building Fund – is back with $2 million in funding on offer.
The fund will mainly be aimed at applications for grants of between $25,000 and $100,000.

The survey helps us to get clear understanding of the main issues and trends in the provision and receipt of health care in Queensland. No matter whether you are a member of the public, or a health professional, these are questions designed for you.

Mackay's better bus services is here - get on board! - Earlier this year, council held community consultations on a better bus network. Using your feedback, we've worked with Mackay Transit Coaches to create an easier-to-use network that takes you where you want to go, when you want to travel.

Be Healthier, Be Happier
Queensland is a great state but unfortunately we have the highest rate of obesity in Australia. Our research shows 65 per cent of Queenslanders are overweight or obese, and 33 per cent don’t even realise it. Not only that, 23 per cent are at risk of being overweight in the future.

Storm and Cyclone Season is now upon us. So now is the time to ensure your contact lists are up-to-date, any computer files are backed up, you have scanned copies of any important documents such as insurance policies and your facilities are prepared and ready for the season.
You also need to ensure your own place of residence is prepared because you cannot be in two places at once.

Council's community grants
Council’s community grant program aims to provide assistance to local community groups/organisations who make positive contributions to the quality of life in the Local Government area.
Grants are offered twice each year. Applications close on the first Friday in February and August.

Council's junior sporting grants
Mackay Regional Council is proud to support the community with a variety of grant and funding opportunities. Council's sporting grants aim to provide financial assistance toward the cost of team levies, registration, uniforms, travel and other costs associated with junior sports persons participating in national and international competitions. This grant is offered all year round.
