$5.6m library contract kept local

We’ve awarded a $5.6m contract for construction of the exciting Dudley Denny City Library in the Dome in the City Centre.

Local construction firm Fergus Builders has secured the job and has committed to using local suppliers and contractors.

Our Facilitating Development in the Mackay Region is kicking goals.

Three developments have been granted concessions in the past fortnight and we’ve also amended the policy to broaden its scope.

Collection takes pride of place

Personal items that once belonged to Mackay’s founder Captain John Mackay now take pride of place the foyer of our Gordon Street administration building.

The items were donated by his granddaughter Christina Mackay-Lowes, of Brisbane.

AFL buzz begins to build

Excitement is building for Mackay’s first NAB Challenge AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and St Kilda Saints at Harrup Park on March 6.

The match, supported through our Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program, was launched this week, with tickets now on sale.

Council’s last meeting

The current term of council held its second-last meeting this week.

The final meeting of this council will be held on Tuesday, February 9.

We’ll then enter caretaker mode ahead of the March 19 local government elections.

Signs must measure up

Any potential candidates for the local government elections are being reminded they must adhere to local election signage laws.

Election signage is governed under our local laws.

If signs don’t meet regulations, candidates face hefty penalties.
