A new way to pay for parking in the CBD

Council is launching a new council-branded parking app later this month. This will replace the PayStay parking app. The new app, Mackay Parking, will be available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store soon.

Use of the current parking app, PayStay, has now ceased at Mackay’s four off-street paid parking spaces, and the Mackay Parking app will go live on July 18. This means council will be offering FREE parking until July 17 at council’s paid car parks.

NAIDOC Family Day moves to Jubilee Park

Council have worked with the Mackay NAIDOC committee to move the popular NAIDOC Family Fun Day from Queens Park to Jubilee Park tomorrow (Friday, July 8).

This decision was made after the recent prolonged wet weather event forced the cancellation of the last two days of Daly Bay Illuminate due to waterlogging. Upon inspection it has been decided the grounds are still unsuitable for driving on with food trucks, passenger vehicles and equipment.

To facilitate these food trucks at Jubilee Park there will be some reduced kerbside parking along Alfred Street to allow them to set up adjacent to the park.

The NAIDOC Street Parade will still assemble in Macalister Street at 10am and make its way down Victoria and Sydney streets before turning down Alfred Street.

Future leaders in local government welcomed

A new partnership between Mackay Regional Council and the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) is bringing a pilot program to the region that will revolutionise how young people are included in local government.

The Young Mayors program will support people aged 17 and under to get elected to the youth cabinet, positioning young people as decision makers on issues that impact their future.

Elected by young people in the Mackay region, the youth cabinet will work together to define priority areas, and work with council to implement projects and events.

Coastal living highlighted through art
