Reckless waste disposal on the rise

Another fire has caused a close call in a council waste truck.

Council waste collection contractor JJ Richards reported a fire in a load while servicing bins in the South Mackay area last Thursday (February 4).

This is the second fire for 2021 and the tenth fire in the last 12 months.

Mayor Greg Williamson said these fires are occurring too often.

Seaforth welcomes
new shared pathway

A beachside town is counting the days until a new shared pathway is accessible for their community.

Mayor Greg Williamson said residents had raised concerns regarding the safety of children travelling to and from school.

He said families currently travelled along the shoulder of Yakapari-Seaforth Road or on the grass adjacent to the road.

The $697,000 project will formalise a safe, dedicated travel path for pedestrians and cyclists.
