Excitement building for Anzac Day services

We’ve been helping the RSL plan Mackay region Anzac Day services for Monday, April 25.

Our newly-elected Mayor Greg Williamson and councillors will be attending services throughout the region.

A highlight this year will be the addition of three RSPCA dogs to the main Mackay Anzac Day march, representing the role war dogs have played in our military history.

MECC becomes wonderland

Our libraries are inviting families with kiddies under five on a journey of imagination, magic and wonder.

To officially celebrate the start of the First Five Forever literacy program, the libraries are hosting a family fun morning next Tuesday, April 19, between 10am and noon at the MECC.

Check out City Centre heritage

We’re helping celebrate the National Trust’s Heritage Festival 2016, with a glimpse into the history of our City Centre.

As part of Heritage Week, we’re hosting two one-hour heritage walks in the City Centre, guided by local historian Berenice Wright, next Thursday, April 21, at 5.30pm and Friday, April 22, at 10am.

Surf meets turf at launch

We’re a big supporter of the Mackay Airport Beach Races Festival through our Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program.

This year’s August event will be officially launched at a traditional race day at Ooralea Racecourse on April 30.

Artworks make a splash

Local artist David Day can do wonders with marine debris like thongs, plastic bottles, netting and rope.

We have employed him to create unique artwork, using items he finds washed up on the beach, to help raise awareness of the impact marine debris is having on the coastal environment.

Rehabilitation on course

We’re about to start work on stage two of a joint project to rehabilitate Lagoons Creek.

The project, which also involves Reef Catchments and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, aims to improve the creek's health and amenity.
