Our MLC Advice Mackay Easter Carnival at Caneland Park at the weekend was a hopping good time.

But the school holiday fun for kids in our City Centre doesn’t end there.

Holiday fun an artform

Make Artspace Mackay another school holiday destination.

The Kids APT8 on tour from the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art will feature at the Mackay gallery from April 5 to April 10.

It provides free, creative fun for the entire family.

Technology offers waste tips


Arming staff at our Incredable Tip Shop at Paget with iPads is not only making the shopping process smoother for customers – it is also providing real-time data on material being sold.

Access to that data means the tip shop will be the first in Queensland to know exactly how much waste  and what types of reusables are being diverted from landfill.

Election counting nears end

Counting for the Mackay Regional Council councillor election has finished.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland is finalising details and expected to declare the poll soon.

The 10 new councillors and Mayor-elect Greg Williamson are due to be sworn in at a ceremony on April 6.

Illegal dumping
WATCH THE VIDEO > It’s happening and it’s ugly. Council is currently running a campaign to combat illegal dumping. As well as being unsightly, illegal dumping is costly to our community.

Upgrades in full swing

We’ve started work to upgrade Ron Anderson Park and Fairmeadow Drive Park. The work follows a public consultation process late last year about planned improvements for the two parks.

Ron Anderson Park is in Pompey Street, South Mackay, and Fairmeadow Park is in North Mackay and visible from the Bruce Highway.

Tomorrow (Friday, April 1) is the deadline for university students to apply for one of five $5000 Academic Bursaries we’re offering.

The bursaries are available to students in their final two years of study in Engineering, Information Technology, Accounting, Planning or Environmental Health.
