Council gathers community views on fluoride


The “for” and “against” cases have been presented at a Community Forum on fluoride.

The forum was held at the MECC on Wednesday night and livestreamed on our website ahead of a decision on whether fluoridation of the public water supply should continue.

ReachTel will now conduct a random phone poll and residents can also have a say on the Connecting Mackay website.

Bin collection changes

We’re making some changes to waste and recyclables collection services across the Mackay region, beginning Monday, October 24.

The changes will provide the region with a more efficient waste collection service.

They will reduce the number of bins collected on peak days and increase the number of collections on slower days.

Councils unite for GW3

The formation of an exciting new regional economic organisation for the Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac region is one step closer.

A meeting of the Whitsunday ROC (Regional Organisation of Councils) in Mackay today agreed to seed funding for GW3, the Greater Whitsunday Alliance, for the next three years.

The meeting also agreed on a recruitment process for a CEO and chairman for the new industry-led body.

Flood and stormwater issues being tackled


We’ve endorsed a draft Mackay Region Flood and Stormwater Strategy.

The strategy, developed in conjunction with local engineering consultancy AECOM, aims to proactively address flood and stormwater issues in our region.

Stakeholders were involved in developing the draft strategy which is now open for community consultation.

Get your hands on an arts bursary for 2017

Applications are now open for the 2017 Hands On Bursary.

Funded by The Artspace Mackay Foundation and supported by us, the bursary is an annual initiative which pays tribute to one of Mackay’s celebrated artists, the late Rick Wood.

Works under way near Barnes Creek Bridge

We’re currently undertaking works to install a sewer main bypass on Barnes Creek Bridge and Barnes Creek Road in North Mackay.

The works are scheduled to continue until October 10, subject to weather.

There are traffic management changes in place for the duration of the work.
