We One Action Network Summer Review
The World Poverty Clock estimates that 16 million Kenyans or 30% of their population are living below the poverty line, which is defined as less than $2.00 per day. One of the greatest causes of poverty is the lack of jobs, education and funding for schools.

We One Action Network (WOAN) is a firm believer that education brings hope for the future and a path for a better life. Other known gaps that exist is the spread of HIV, access to clean water and health care as well as other forms of inequalities. Since 2018, WOAN have positioned ourselves as part of the solution by working with vetted organizations both here (USA) and in Kenya.

This 2022 Summer Review illustrates a small glimpse of a bigger picture of WOANs strength with standing with peer organizations and local leaders. Please know that your donations and prayers are very much appreciated and are never, ever taken for granted. We want to extend our sincerest Thank You and the highest gratitude of appreciation for your continued support.
Kibera Girls Soccer Academy
The Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) provides a free, holistic secondary school education to 130 girls annually in Kibera. KGSA’s model cares for the whole girl; academics, soccer, after school clubs, nutrition, healthcare, mentorships and scholarships for both higher education and vocational learning.

WOAN and KGSA recognize the challenges that girls face in the Kibera community. Our vision is to harness the power of the girl-effect to create a stronger, more resilient Kibera. Because of WOANs partnership, we are sponsoring KGSA’s Alumnae Association that brings recent KGSA graduates back to mentor senior students so they understand more about “real world” expectations.

Shine Academy Educational Center
Shine Academy Educational Center (SAEC) is a private elementary school that offers free basic education, and mentorship to orphan children. SAEC has three classrooms, three teachers and they were officially registered in 2014 by the Kenya Ministry of Education.

In July 2022, WOAN funded a project to reconstruct their restrooms.
Click here to see a video of the finished project. Because of WOAN’s sponsorship of SAEC, they have continued to serve vulnerable and orphan children. Their school motto is simple: We Dream — We Believe — We Shine!

Tribeless Youth
Tribeless Youth (TY) is a youth initiative established in 2016 with the objective to promote peaceful coexistence among the youth in Kenya. TY promotes the use of art, music, online and offline platforms to galvanize unity among Kenyan youth.

With WOANs partnership, we have created a youth development center to mitigate teen suicide, underage pregnancy, depression, substance/alcohol and sexual abuse. The center is appropriately named the Ubuntu Creative Hub. The word Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning “humanity to others".

Garden of Hope Foundation
The Garden of Hope Foundation (GoHF) is a local organization that is passionate about restoring hope to underserved people living in urban slums and rural communities. Their goal is to create sustainable economic opportunities for vulnerable youth.

In March 2022, WOAN partnered with GoHF to sponsor youths as part of their entrepreneurship and development program. The graduates completed their training in early May 2022 with funds to help launch their businesses.
Tax Exempt Status Update
In October 2021, we hired a nonprofit firm to help WOAN gain tax exempt status with the IRS. This is not a simple process when funds are accepted in USA but used internationally. However, the reward is our donors will have the ability to take advantage of many tax benefits.

After receiving our Federal Tax ID and Articles of Incorporation from the state of North Carolina, WOAN officially filed for 501c3 tax exempt status in April 2022. From the IRS responses received, we are anticipating approval in December 2022.
Our 5 year anniversary is in 2023! Be on the lookout for more announcements and our year-end review where we feature organizations we've partnered with and projects we've completed.
