NDIS Registration for NT Service Providers, The Bilateral Agreement between the Commonwealth and the Northern Territory: Transition to a NDIS requires the Northern Territory Government (NTG) to register National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers for services that were traditionally funded by the NTG. Service providers will be required to complete the NT registration process prior to becoming registered with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver NDIS services.
The NTG is developing a tailored Quality and Safeguards Framework that will align with national standards and the proposed national quality and safeguarding framework for the NDIS. The Framework will provide a method for registration and address the unique requirements of the NT demographics, particularly remote service provision and the need for culturally safe and competent services. As part of the development of the Framework, the NTG engaged in targeted consultation with service providers and industry peaks, and it incorporated the feedback from the extensive consultation on the national quality and safeguarding framework for the NDIS.
The NT registration process will begin in October 2016 and will prioritise the regions and providers initially affected by the rollout of the NDIS, which commences from 1 January 2017. The NT registration process is flexible and adaptable to the types of services that you deliver.
A key objective of the NT registration is building the capacity of the sector. The NT registration process will provide opportunities to prepare service providers to meet the NDIS full scheme national quality and safeguard requirements that will be implemented in the NT on 1 July 2019. A range of resources will be available to support service providers to meet registration requirements and to strengthen their quality and safeguard frameworks, such as tailored governance and financial management services, access to forums, resources and tools that can build capability and support service delivery.
The NTG is committed to working with people with disability and service providers to ensure the transition to the NDIS goes smoothly. The Office of Disability has been meeting with organisations initially affected by the NDIS rollout to discuss the registration process. If you would like further information, or would like to meet with the NTG NDIS Implementation Team, please contact Cheryl Harris on phone (08) 8999 2847 or via email at
