The Coalition has been working with a small working group to develop a Territory wide theme, 'Talk. Support. Recover'  A painting was also commissioned to support a Territory theme. As well as developing a web page for calendar events. More information will be sent out soon.

About the artist – Norma Benger Chidanpee, born in Darwin eldest of seven children, Norma’s art style reflexes both the Daly River region including her Murinpatha family from Wadeye which is her grandmother’s country, both salt water and inland billabongs and the strong inland desert of her father’s country that influences her art style.

Norma’s parents are both from the stolen generation, her father (Teddy Hayes) being taken from the telegraph station in Alice Springs, and put on Minjilang (Croker Island) and her mother Marguerita Parry was taken from her parents at Mongo Farm on the Daly River and put on the Tiwi Islands.

Tribal Group: Marathiel/Murinpatha/Keyteji

Norma has exhibited her works both nationally and internationally, after completing a Fine Arts Degree, majoring in printmaking, BFA.

The story of the painting
commission by the NT Mental Health Coalition for Mental Health Week.

The NT Mental Health Coalition’s logo is at the centre of the painting with interconnections between its members which are depicted as white and brown circles working continually within the communities, supporting and working with individuals, families and youth.

The blue figures in the middle of the Coolamons are people struggling to come out of their illness, the blue clouds and out into the bright sunlight depicted as moving to a healthy state of wellbeing through talking, supporting and recovering.
