Hi Everyone!
It is THAT time of year again - my season is about to get underway! I have to say that I am probably looking forward to this year more than any other. After a great break in December, I came back into training feeling refreshed - mentally, physically and emotionally. The build up thus far has been consistent and steady. I've made some changes to my diet with my nutritionist Phil Goglia from Performance Fitness Concepts (including doubling the amount of protein I'm eating at breakfast, lunch and dinner and increasing my caloric intake by almost 1,000 calories per day), have been putting a huge emphasis on getting 8-10 hours of sleep per night (Thanks for the support BearMattress!), and have been learning to take my easy days even easier. I have been reaping the great benefits in my training and I feel excited. Unlike years past where I have been nervous for the first race of the year, I am excited to put things to the test.
My first race is this weekend in China at IRONMAN 70.3 Liuzhou. The gun goes off at 7:30 AM Saturday, April 1st (4:40 PM PST on Friday)! This year I am acting as an ambassador for IRONMAN in China to educate people about racing there and elevate the profile of the sport in the country. It is exciting for me and something I'm very much looking forward to being part of! I'll be racing in China three times this year - in April, again in August and then in November.
After Liuzhou, I'll be back in California where I'll begin my prep for Ironman Cairns. This is the Asia Pacific Championships which is one of the five regional championship races globally and my "A" race (outside of Kona) for me this season. I'll race Santa Rosa 70.3 on May 13th as a prep for Cairns, but all sights will be set on June 11th. Stay tuned in to my social media channels (FB/Instagram/Twitter) as we'll be having some great giveaways around this race in conjunction with some of my sponsors. Thanks Rudy Project, Polar and Zone3 USA!
Outside of training we've been working on a bunch of activation. I spoke with the UC Berkely triathlon team a few weeks back, which was SO fun. And at the moment we are planning the second annual Ride & Wine charity event to benefit iTri girls in July. Details are below, but I hope you will join us!
We've also been creating some exciting content with The Habit Project. I personally just wrote a blog for the site about my efforts to improve my work/life balance. You can read about it here. Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as we continue to grow our community.
Thank you to all of YOU for the continued wonderful support. I'll check in after my first race!
