What's Happening on the Farm

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the newsletter silence! I've been without a computer all summer and doing business on my iPhone (Yes- those who know me may be shocked- but I had to get an iPhone since I was down a computer. I do miss my flip phone though). We have had a great, busy, and full summer! Also- I know it's not yet September but I report back to teaching this week so I figured I'd get this out while I had the chance!
We're Married! Jon and I got married at the farm in July. It was a beautiful, small wedding with family and friends. Jon raised and prepared a pig for a pig roast, and all the food was made/grown by ourselves, friends and family. Jon and I also brewed 15 gallons of beer! It was a great day, we couldn't be happier! And of course we had to take a break around 5:00 to milk the goats!
New Buckling! In July we also welcomed our new Nigerian Buckling- registered as Vanilla Ice! We've renamed him Hansel (Hahn-sal, like in Zoolander!). Nigerian milk is high in butterfat, which makes our yogurt thicker than other goat milk yogurt. We therefore also bought 3 Nigerian Dwarf does from where we bought Hansel. We are loving our new tiny little friends! Hehe.
What's New Seasonal strawberry goat milk yogurt has come and gone, and we are now making blueberry yogurt. Fall is fast approaching, though, and we are in the process of brainstorming for a new fall flavor- let me know if there's anything you're craving! We've picked up a few new wholesale accounts: Glory Bee Natural Foods in Brunswick, Wanser's in Boothbay, and Sheepscot General Store in Whitefield.
Coming Up
  •  Open Creamery Day: Sunday, October 9 at Appleton Creamery.
  •  Maine Cheese Festival: Sunday, October 16 at Savage Oakes Winery in Union.
  • Harvest Festival:  November 19 and 20 Bangor.
Monthly Recipe: Maple Yogurt Pound Cake
We use our maple yogurt for this recipe, and it's deeeeelicious! I always adapt recipes, and I cut the butter in half and it still turned out amazing. I also added vanilla bean.
