Online Therapy and New Ways of Working

We are delighted to announce that we have recently added a new service to the ADADSU offerings.  After listening to our clients, we could see there was a need to offer an opportunity to seek online therapy at a time and location to suit them.

Time is a vital commodity and often the barrier that stops us from asking for help and support when our lives are running at a 100 miles per hour.  With this in mind, online therapy using the latest technologies, can give you the confidence to seek help at a time and place to suit you.

Picks of the Month are also added as usual (scroll down to the bottom) with Top Pick: Dr Irvin Yalom interview, renowned author and psychotherapist, on his evolving position on online therapy! Enjoy!

Benefits of Online Therapy:

We understand that some people may prefer to come and visit us but our online services offer a wealth of benefits:

Benefit 1: Time Saving
We understand that your time is precious and you may not be able to attend psychotherapy, counselling or coaching sessions at our London therapy clinics. Travel times can become a hassle and make you run late for sessions. You can now have sessions in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.

Benefit 2: Money Saving
Travel costs and time can be prohibitive for some people to come to one of our clinics. Especially those that come from far. This puts more pressure on arriving on time and takes considerable time out of the day which could result in loss of earnings and increased stress levels.

Benefit 3: Flexible
Anywhere, at any place most comfortable for you and at a time that is most convenient for you - this flexibility puts you back in control.

Benefit 4: Accessible
Anywhere in the world, at any place at any time - whilst on holidays, when travelling, when living in remote places or when mobility is an issue and it is difficult for you to leave the home. Support is now available and accessible to you.

Benefit 5: Safe & Secure
We deliver safe and confidential sessions via easy to use media technologies. Some online technologies or apps may be safer and more confidential than others - whether it be video/audio/chat/email. But most of these online technologies are now a big part of our everyday lives - why not make use of thes to get the help and support you need.

For the first meeting we try to meet face-to-face if possible. We can help advise you if online therapy, counselling or coaching may be the right thing for you. We can also help advise on the best current technologies out there to make this happen from your phone, iPad or PC.
Do you need any support but can't travel to us or are located in a different country? We now offer more slots for online support, contact us for more.
Debunking the Top 6 Myths of Online Therapy

Whilst there are a number of benefits to online therapy, we also understand that some people my have concerns about this new approach.  We have taken this opportunity to write our latest blog on Debunking the Top 6 Myths of Online Therapy

The myths include:
  • Online therapy is less effective
  • You cannot build a relationship
  • Harder to work in depth in online sessions
  • Easier to get distracted
  • Less secure
  • Poor connection
We hope our blog article can break down these barriers and show you what ADADSU can offer.  We would also like to hear your thoughts on online therapy.

Video of the Month: Interview with Irvin Yalom on the Evolution of Therapy [64 mins]

Dr. Irvin Yalom discusses his evolving position on online therapy. He is a renowned existential psychotherapist and author and emeritus Professor at Stanford University. Irvin Yalom is interviewed by Dr Iris Reitzes from Talkspace (US online therapy community) for his keynote speech “The Evolution of Therapy” at the Future of Therapy Conference 2016. In this interview he reflects also on the concept of death in psychotherapy, his career as an author and psychotherapist, and the role of technology in the future of psychotherapy.

TEDTalk of the Month: The psychology of your future self with Dan Gilbert [7mins]

"The only thing constant in life is change" he quotes at the end by famous Francoise de la Rochefoucauld. Enjoy this motivational video from Professor Dan Gilbert for a reality check backed by his research. "Human beings are works in progress that mistakenly think they're finished." Dan Gilbert shares recent research on a phenomenon he calls the "end of history illusion," where we somehow imagine that the person we are right now is the person we'll be for the rest of time. Hint: that's not the case.

(Audio)Book of the Month: Interview with Ruby Wax about her new Book A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled [1.5 mins]

This book from Ruby Wax has become a best seller in the audio book format from Audible, or in paperback or Kindle format from Amazon. She looks at stress and how we have created it, claiming nobody died of stress 500 years ago. Very accessible, witty and smart, Ruby Wax shows ordinary people how and why to change for good. With practical exercises for your daily routine and a six-week course based on her studies of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy with Mark Williams at Oxford University, this could be the guide for a more mindful and happier self.

Yoga Session of the Month: Yoga Camp "I LOVE Myself" with Adriene [27 mins]

This is Day 29 of Adriene's "Yoga Camp" Challenge. It is about asking yourself the big questions and not just to exercise for the sake of it. Do this beautiful yoga session with a mantra and affirmation "I love myself" in mind. Enjoy this practice to help with self acceptance and self compassion exercising body and mind!

Recipe of the Month: Slow Cooked 3-Bean Chili from Kitchen Stories App [15 mins]

This delicious recipe is done in only 15 minutes! It comes from the Kitchen Stories app, one of my favourite recipe apps out there that will work with your apple watch, sending you one recipe per week and making it super easy to create something tasty and nourishing for yourself. Enjoy!!
