Greetings Play Therapists!

The old saying “March roars in like a lion and leaves as a lamb” is true for many of us across the nation and indeed, the world. Spring is a time for renewal and recharging for most of us.

However, in many places in the world today, early spring rain and snow have wreaked havoc on communities at home and across the globe. War and famine are serious problems across continents. What is a play therapist to do in these situations?

The answer is to bring joy to the joyless, scared, and helpless members of our society.

Play gives words to the unspeakable. This is true in trauma, grief, and just the bumps and bruises that happen in life.

I am beyond grateful to be doing my small part in bringing play therapy and trainings to those who are in the trenches and working with children young and old across the world.

It is an honor and privilege to be partnering with a small group of refugee workers in Lebanon who are working tirelessly to help children impacted by war and displacement, many of them who have literally run for their lives with just the clothes on their backs.

My Many Colors of Me is currently being translated into Arabic for use on the ground in the tent cities and relocation camps.

My hope is that each of you will find renewed energy to continue working with the children and families we serve. Take time to engage in self-care every day!

This may include at the end of the day, giving yourself 15 minutes to create a sand tray representing your clients, or to celebrate a client breakthrough, or process where you feel stuck in treatment.

It may be giving yourself a treat, such as a yummy drink (my new favorite is an iced caramel macchiato) or pedicure. It may be permission to literally stop and smell the flowers that are bursting from winter’s dark, long nights.

Whatever it is you decide to do, remember how important it is to invest in YOU!!

Keep Playing!

What is a Grief Quilt?
Children just don't have the language ability to process their grief by talking to adults. This is difficult for many adults that want grief to be a bonding time with children. Watch "Grief Quilt" to understand how you can use art to help children to process, connect, and heal.

I would love to speak at your upcoming event!
