Conexxions... The quarterly newsletter of Conexxus

Solving Forward; Conexxus work and accomplishments are keeping pace with the rapidly changing retail technology landscape.

Conexxus membership continues to serve the industry through improving its core standards that save hard dollars in technology and store operations.  Along with today’s challenges, Conexxus is embracing new technologies that are emerging in tomorrow’s retail landscape, such as mobile commerce, technology asset tracking, and data security; ensuring that standards are ready for the steady stream of innovations as technology blurs the lines between consumer and business technology, and web and mobile commerce.

Conexxus leads innovation by providing timely data exchange standards and guidance that address where retail will be, such as a robust suite of standards around mobile payments and loyalty – the only such standards in existence for retail.

The industry experts and leaders who volunteer to serve the industry through Conexxus are constantly vigilant for emerging opportunities that give our industry an edge in the fierce world of retail.  Through webinars, presentations at industry events, working with key venture capital firms, field trips to key technology providers, and leading external broad-industry standards work, Conexxus ensures that our industry is never left behind, and is never an afterthought.

Have a look at some of our accomplishments – and engage with Conexxus to take maximum advantage of our work, and help us achieve more!

Sincerely,
Gray Taylor
Conexxus Executive Director

Did you know that Conexxus is a member of EMVCo?

EMVCo exists to “facilitate worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions”.  It manages and evolves the EMV® specifications and related testing processes.

EMVCo has two types of memberships: business associates & technical associates.  Anyone can join as a technical associate; typically suppliers to the industry with technical expertise and help write the specifications.  Business associate membership is restricted and generally limited to those with direct responsibility for an EMV® transaction, such as merchants, banks, and processors.  Business associate organizations have a seat on the EMVCo board of advisors, which helps determine future business direction.

Conexxus joined EMVCo, on behalf of our industry, early in 2017 as a business associate.  This allows us to participate in the board of advisors meetings and have early access to EMV® specifications and draft documents.  Why is this important?  Like all of the advocacy Conexxus does, this allows us to monitor the activity and have an early warning if something is coming that will negatively impact our industry’s ability to do business.

Conexxus’ engagement with EMVCo, and other groups like the World Wide Web Consortium and X9/ISO ensures that the realities of our market are adequately reflected in the standards and specifications being contemplated in “the big picture”.  This work has saved the industry billions, and will continue to provide hard dollar benefits in the future.

New X9 Financial Services Standard Released
The new standard deals exclusively with so-called “data security” tokens used to protect sensitive card data after a transaction is completed, but they are not used as a replacement for the Primary Account Number (PAN) in a card authorization transaction.
