  • Help significantly with running the club and take some of the meeting leadership responsibilities.
  • This position is considered training to become future club President.

Smallgoods Cheese & Provisions opens in La Jolla

Jenny & Mike Eastwood, new 2015 Queso Diego members, have recently opened Smallgoods Cheese & Provisions at the La Jolla Open Aire Market. With only 2 showings under their belt, word must be spreading because products are selling out.

Smallgoods features a rotation of American Cheese Society 2015 west coast award-winners along with local charcuterie from Point Loma's own, Pete Balistreri, executive chef of Tender Greens at Liberty Station. "It's really exciting how quickly marketgoers have embraced our little stand. They're commenting about the quality and unique offerings - we're already seeing a number of repeat customers. Last week we sold out!" said Jenny. "We'll continue to specialize in all things west coast and look forward to adding new, local finds," she added.

In addition to hand picking all of the cheeses for the new La Jolla venture, Jenny currently teaches cheese education classes at The Cheese Store of San Diego. She began her cheese career at Murray's Cheese, New York, where she honed her skills as an affineur at the company's Bleecker Street caves before moving upstairs to monger.

Smallgoods is open during market hours, Sundays from 9-1, at the La Jolla Elementary School. If you know of any local products that might enhance their offerings, please let them know.

December Holiday Party

In December, we do not have our usual Queso Diego meeting. Instead, we have our annual holiday potluck party, requiring members to pay their dues in full in order to receive an invitation to the holiday party.

We will be having an "Opportunity Drawing" (aka raffle) with your first raffle ticket free with your paid membership and subsequent raffle tickets for $1 each. Please think about your resources and your network and consider donating to the drawing. Please email the officers with your donation: officers@quesodiego.org
