To kick off events - On Monday, August 6th, join the SES for a workshop hosted by NIST on Conformity Assessment Guidance and Best Practices. The workshop will look at Canada, Mexico, and United States stakeholder experiences in conformity assessment and best practices for government, industry, and the conformity assessment community when developing regulatory and voluntary government programs. Also on Monday, August 6th, SES offers its annual full-day continuing education course, "Fundamentals of Standards and Conformity Assessment: Basic Knowledge and Tools for Today’s Professional."

Wrapping up the conference - On Thursday, August 9th, join the SES for "Workforce Development and the Standards Professional," an interactive workshop lead by a panel of experts discussing the future of the standardization professional. Johnathan Stewart, National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) to moderate.

World Standards Day Paper Competition - There's still time!
2018 World Standards Day theme “Innovation Nation"
Submissions due by July 13, 2018
The Society for Standards Professionals and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee to co-sponsor a paper competition for individuals in the U.S. standards community. The 2018 paper competition winners will be announced and given their awards at the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day, which will be held this year on October 18, 2018, at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. All submissions must be received with an official entry form by midnight on July 13, 2018.

Standards Engineering
The May/June issue of Standards Engineering contains a NIST grant report from Purdue about how the library community supports standards education, an update on the credentialing efforts by ANSI subsidiary Workcred, and a piece on ANSI’s coordination processes using the Nanotechnology Standards Panel as an example. The issue also contains the usual news about members, the law, and standards in general—look for important information about patents, and new requirements for the protection of privacy for your European participants.

SES Member Spotlight

The SES Standards Committee is developing an SES 2 standard which provides guidance to standards development organizations, trade associations, government agencies, companies and any others involved in the development of standards. It addresses the essential due process requirements for the development, revision, reaffirmation and withdrawal of standards in the form of a model procedures guide.
