Hello Soup Dragons
It seems that spring is finally here, and so is Sutton Soup 9, which is just a week away, on 26th April. We’ve got four great pitchers for you:
The Dreaming Tree Project – was set up last year to deliver services to the deaf community in Sutton, and to try and raise awareness of how deafness affects everyday situations. Penny from the project will be pitching to raise money for radio aids which will enable more deaf Sutton children to access the classroom: https://www.thedreamingtreeproject.com
Sutton Women’s Centre – is a local organisation run by women, for women, to provide them with the chance to achieve their potential through education, advice and resources. Heather from the centre will pitch for funds to buy equipment for their crèche and toddler group, which provides a vital lifeline for many women in the borough, including those who have suffered domestic violence and those who have English as a second language: http://www.suttonwomen.co.uk
Down's Syndrome UK – is a parent-led, registered charity offering help and support to families, professionals and people with Down’s Syndrome in Surrey, Sussex and South London. They are looking for money to cover the costs of a drama group for children with Down’s Syndrome aged 5-15 that they run in Carshalton. We will hear from Kathy how the group is good for the children’s self-esteem, imagination, physical and creative skills: http://www.downsyndromeok.org.uk
Carshalton Artists Open Studios – is an exciting, not for profit community arts festival run by the local creative community group, Carshalton Artists. We will be joined by Neal who will tell us about how the festival will enable Sutton residents to access workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions for free during the festival, and how funds are needed to enable this: https://www.carshaltonartists.com
And of course, we will be hearing from the lovely team at Family Learning Hub, who won January’s Soup and took away £970! We’re really looking forward to catching up with them…
As ever, there will be homemade soup and bread for you to enjoy – we are being treated to Vegetable Soup made by Kellie from the Robin Hood pub and our very own Heather will be making some delicious wholemeal spelt loaves to accompany it. Yum!
You don’t want to miss this, so if you haven’t done so already please do book your ticket here: http://bit.ly/SuttonSoup
See you next week. Until then, enjoy the lovely spring sunshine.
All the best,
Sutton Soup Team
